The "defroster flap" prevents the windshield from misting up, thus increasing vehicle safety. Three signals - windshield temperature, interior temperature and humidity - are required for it to function. When misting is detected, the climate control unit increases the power of the air conditioning compressor and the speed of the blower motor, while the defroster flap continues to open.
This directs dry air over the evaporator and heat exchanger, through the defroster damper to the front and side windows. An electric actuator in the defroster flap receives and processes position instructions from the climate control unit.
