Typical consequences
If this defect is detected, it may lead to the following problems:
- Engine damage
- Failure of the exhaust emission test (Failure to pass the exhaust emission test)
Function of the ignition system
The ignition coil transforms the vehicle's 12-volt on-board voltage into the required ignition voltage and passes it on to the spark plugs. The spark plugs then ignite the gasoline-air mixture prepared by the injection system in the cylinder, creating a steady explosion pressure that powers the engine.
Each cylinder usually has one spark plug, but some car makes and models may have two. The spark is generated at the ground electrodes of the spark plug, which are located on the thread of the spark plug. To ignite the mixture, the spark jumps to the center electrode, which is separated by a ceramic insulator.
