Function of boost pressure control
The boost pressure control plays an essential role in turbocharger systems. It controls the amount of air supplied and thus the boost pressure that reaches the engine. At low load or engine speed, boost pressure is reduced, for efficient fuel consumption and low wear.
At higher load or engine speed, the boost pressure is increased to provide more power. This is controlled by a wastegate or variable turbine geometry. If the pressure is too high, the wastegate diverts part of the exhaust gases past the turbocharger, while the variable turbine geometry changes the cross-section of the exhaust duct.
