Typical consequences
If this defect is detected, it may lead to the following problems:
- Exhaust system damage
- Failure of the exhaust emission test (Failure to pass the exhaust emission test)
Functionality lambda sensor
The lambda sensor regulates exhaust emissions and supports the environmental compatibility of the vehicle. It is located in the exhaust tract and measures the oxygen content of the exhaust gases. The engine control unit uses this measurement data to optimally adjust the air-fuel mixture, which ensures efficient combustion and minimizes emissions.
A distinction is made between control probes and diagnostic probes. The control probe continuously monitors the air-fuel mixture and informs the control unit to adjust the injection. Diagnostic probes, which are placed behind the catalytic converter, monitor the performance of the catalytic converter.
