As you suspect, this affects the low-pressure fuel system. The mechanics had to replace the fuel pressure gauge and reprogram the software to get everything working properly again. After that, all the symptoms were gone, as you described. It was definitely a serious issue, I would suggest getting the car checked as soon as possible.
