Moin, good to hear that you had the same problems. It confirms my suspicion about the glow plugs a little. Thanks for the advice to have the fault memory read out. Now I'm just curious how much the change cost you? And has your Focus had any similar problems or other breakdowns since then? Thank you very much for your feedback!

Hi, I'm glad I was able to help you with my experience. After my visit to the mechanic, the glow plugs were replaced due to wear. Since then, the problems you mentioned have disappeared. So, the indicator light is no longer constantly on, the starting process is normal again, no more black smoke and fuel consumption has also dropped. On the subject of costs, I can tell you that I paid a total of €560. It wasn't exactly a bargain, but compared to the potential consequential damage, which can certainly be more expensive - see broken DPF as I said before, I was happy to pay it. Since then, my Focus hasn't had any similar problems or other breakdowns. So the investment has definitely paid off. I hope you feel the same way! All the best with your Mondeo.

Hi again, your report is really very helpful. It sounds like replacing the glow plugs could definitely be the right solution. The cost shouldn't be underestimated of course, but it's worth it if it can help avoid more expensive repairs like the DPF. I think I'll probably find a mechanic now and make an appointment. Thanks for the valuable tips and experience. You have really given me a great help against all the hurdles. I wish I had found the problem sooner, less hassle. Hopefully the repair will ensure that my Mondeo runs as smoothly as before! Best wishes and have a nice day!

Hello, I had the same problem with my 2001 Ford Focus. My glow plugs were actually defective. They were simply worn out. With the high mileage on your car, I'd say that sounds like it. Mine had about 100,000 kilometers on the clock when they had to be replaced. The symptoms were very similar... the pre-glow light wouldn't go out on mine either, starting difficulties, smoke development, increased consumption. It's not really serious, but if you don't tackle it quickly, it could lead to consequential damage, such as a broken DPF, and then it becomes frenetic. So quite simply, off to the workshop and have the glow plugs changed. Don't forget to have the fault memory read out too. Sometimes there is something hidden there. Good luck and hopefully everything will be in tip-top shape again!
