Ford Galaxy 2017: Problems with the engine control light and loss of power - possible defect in the swirl flap control system

Jerking on acceleration

Shaking while idling

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Loud hissing on acceleration

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with my Ford Galaxy (year of manufacture 2017, diesel). The check engine light is flashing, the engine power has decreased, it jerks and hisses loudly when accelerating and it shakes when idling. I suspect that it is due to the swirl flap control on the intake manifold. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms and knows how the garage fixed it? Please share your experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my Ford S-Max (built in 2015, diesel). I have medium car knowledge. Long story short, the swirl flap was broken. After discovering this, I went to the garage. The mechanic confirmed my diagnosis and the repair cost me 865 euros. To share more details and help further, please share the following info: How long has the problem existed? Have you recently made any modifications to your car? Have you ever hooked your car up to a diagnostic tool? Hope you get this sorted soon!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. I've had the problem for just under two months and my Ford otherwise runs like clockwork, I recently had an inspection done at 77076 km. I haven't changed anything, the car is mostly in the garage. I've also connected a diagnostic device myself, but unfortunately it didn't really help me either... But your 865 euros sounds really hefty, I hope it won't be that expensive for me. Thanks again for your help!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for, to help each other! :D If you've been riding it for two months, I would really recommend that you repair any damage as soon as possible. I would point out the swirl flap again. Of course, it could be something else, but the symptoms look very similar to me... My advice: take a closer look or go straight to a garage if you're unsure. The 865 euros in my case were really hefty, but it could of course be cheaper or even more expensive for you. It always depends on what exactly is wrong. And please let us know what you end up with! Good luck, hopefully everything will sort itself out soon!

Thank you very much for your tips! You're right, I really shouldn't put it off. I'll take my car to the garage as soon as possible and see what they say. Hopefully it's nothing more serious... I'll definitely come back and let you know what comes out. Thanks again for your help! See you then!

The error code P02FA is related to the cylinder deactivation system. This system is designed to improve fuel efficiency by deactivating certain cylinders when they're not needed. If there's a problem with this system, it could potentially cause a drop in power. However, it's also possible that the issue could be related to something else, such as a problem with the fuel system or the turbocharger. I would recommend having a mechanic perform a thorough inspection of the vehicle, focusing on these areas. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?

Hello S-Max_2021, The error code P02FA is related to intake air volume position sensor. As you have already checked Swirl flap actuator, try to delete the error and check if the error comes back. If it does come back take your vehicle to the Ford authorized workshop. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions? Best Regards, CarlyAdminNik
