Hey, great that you're sharing your experience! Your story reassures me a bit. I now have a clearer idea of what to expect when I go to the garage. Especially good to know that the black smoke and DPF regeneration shouldn't be a problem after the repair. Do you happen to remember what you had to pay for the entire repair? And has anything else been wrong since then? It would be really good to know what I should be financially prepared for and whether I need to prepare myself for other surprises. Thank you in advance!

Hey, I'm glad I could help you a bit! I don't remember every detail so precisely, but I do remember that replacing the glow plugs and rectifying the fault in the pre-glow relay cost me around €560. The glow plug was probably defective due to wear, hence the replacement. Since the repair, the symptoms, exactly as described by you, have no longer occurred. The black smoke and the problems with the DPF regeneration disappeared after the repair. I haven't noticed anything new so far, so I hope it will be the same for you. You can be lucky sometimes, can't you? Stay tuned and have a good trip, buddy!

Wow, thanks for that detailed reply! It's reassuring to hear that your car has been running well since then and that the repair was relatively inexpensive. Before I stress myself unnecessarily, I'll probably make an appointment with my garage and have it checked. Hopefully I'll be as lucky as you! Thanks again for your time and the valuable information! Stay healthy and always have a safe journey!

Hey, I drive a Ford S-Max, diesel, built in 2013, and recently had the same problem. At my garage, they put it down to "glow plug defective due to wear". The engine ran rough and took longer to start, just like yours. The glow plugs were changed and the problem was solved. The DPF was also cleaned, which also solved the problems with the DPF regeneration and the black smoke from the exhaust. It wasn't a big deal, but you should definitely get it fixed. It's important to remember that this kind of problem usually occurs in diesel cars after a certain mileage, so nothing to worry too much about. Hope this helps!
