Ford Fiesta 2010: Strange alarm symptoms and possible idle control damage

Check engine light on

Shaking while idling

Unsteady engine

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Stalling while idling

Engine shuts off by itself

Jerking on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Car won't start

Hi guys, I'm a bit worried, my 2010 Ford Fiesta petrol with 83365km on the clock has been making some strange noises lately. When accelerating, black smoke comes out of the exhaust, the check engine light comes on, the engine just stalls, it clearly lacks power, runs rough, jerks when accelerating, won't start, stalls at idle and shakes. I suspect a fault in the idle control. Have any of you had similar problems and have any idea what exactly it could be? Have you been to the garage for something like this and what was your experience? Would be great if you could share your thoughts on this. I'm really scared of being ripped off again. Thanks in advance.

Hey, I totally feel you. Had something similar with my 2013 Ford Focus gasoline engine. In my case, the cable/plug on the idle control valve was faulty. Hardly any power, engine randomly stalled, black smoke, check engine light was on - very similar to yours. Took the car to the garage and they connected the diagnostic tool. They read the fault codes and found that the idle control valve was faulty. They had to replace the entire cable and plug. This was a serious problem, not just a minor fault. After the repair, everything ran smoothly again, no more shuddering, no engine light, no smoke. Could be your problem too, I would definitely have it checked. But hey, don't panic, as long as you have a proper garage, it'll be fine. All the best!

Hey, thanks for your reply! It's amazing that the problem was so intense for you too. Do you remember what you had to put on the table to get it repaired? And has anything similar come up again since then? I would be really interested. Many thanks in advance!

Hey, of course I still remember! It was just so noticeable that you can't just forget about it, you know? So, to repair the cable and the plug on the idle control valve, the garage saved me €155. And no, luckily I haven't had any more problems with this crap since. Once the mechanics had fixed the fault with the idle control, everything ran like clockwork again. No more failures, no more black smoke, nothing. Everything was tiptop! So, don't worry, you'll get it sorted too! Good luck, buddy!

Hey, I can't thank you enough! Your answer helped me a lot. 155 € doesn't sound so bad when you consider that everything should run smoothly again afterwards. I will definitely have it checked out. It's reassuring to know that I'm not the only one who's had problems like this. I really appreciate your help. Hopefully your car will now remain stable and problem free. Thanks again and I wish you all the best too, buddy!
