Ford Everest 2017: Shifting problems and annoying noises when changing gear

Grinding noise when shifting gears

Whining or grinding noises

Hello folks! I've got something at the rear with my 2017 Ford Everest, petrol engine, just under 60,000 kilometers on the clock. Shifts like a drunk, grinding noises when changing gear and then these howling noises. I think this could be due to a faulty gear selection display. Has anyone here had similar problems and what was your experience with your mechanic? I had quite a stressful time there last time. Thank you!

Hey, I have a 2014 Ford Ranger, diesel, also around 60,000 kilometers. Had the exact same problem with the rear end. Turned out to be a wiring harness faulty. Completely stupid thing, the problem can appear with no relation to transmission or gear selection. My mechanic had to rewire it. It was a pain, but it wasn't a big deal and now the car is running great again. Just lucky it wasn't anything serious! Hope that helps you.

Hey, thanks for your reply! The accessory with the wiring harness fault sounds like quite a thing. Do you remember how much you paid for it and if anything else came up afterwards? Thank you!

Hey, no problem, I'm glad if I can help! So, the repair for the wiring harness fault really only cost me €180. It was actually completely problem-free. And since I've been to the mechanic, the gear selection display has been working perfectly again! So I was really lucky that there was nothing more serious behind it. Everything has been fine since then! I hope I was able to help you!

Hey, that all sounds really good! 180 and you've had no further problems, huh? That's a dream. Thank you very much, so I'll ask the mechanic about this wiring harness fault. Let's hope it's something harmless in my case too. Thanks again for your help, really great! Bye!
