Ford Endeavour 2019: Black smoke and reduced engine power - problem with diesel particulate filter?

Loss of engine power

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2019 Ford Endeavour Diesel. It smokes black when accelerating, the check engine light is on, engine power is reduced and the DPF regeneration process is failing. The exhaust also smells very strong. I suspect that the diesel particulate filter may be heavily loaded. Has anyone had similar experiences and can give me tips on how to isolate and rectify the problem? How did you get this solved in your workshop and what were your experiences? I am grateful for any tips.

Hey, brother! Had a similar problem with my 2017 model Ford Ranger, so around the same age range as yours. I have such mediocre experience with cars, so I approached my garage with the problem. After some tests, they found that my diesel particulate filter was defective due to high mileage. The repair cost me 1550 euros and then everything was fine again. As far as the model of your Endevaour is concerned, I would need more information to look at any specific problems. What mileage does the car have? How often have you cleaned or replaced the DPF? This will help me to get a more accurate picture and possibly help you better. Greetings!

Hey, thanks for the quick response. My car now has 61950 km on the clock and the last service was a few months ago. I've never cleaned or replaced the DPF before. So you could be right that it's that. I'll go to my garage and have it checked. The whole thing is really annoying! Thanks for the tip, and best regards!

Hey, no ding bro! With the mileage and if the filter has never been cleaned or replaced, it could really be the DPF, like my Ford back in the day. The DPF collects and stores soot particles that are emitted during operation and burns them at high temperatures. If this system is not working efficiently, this leads to the symptoms you describe. So, take it to the factory and have it checked! It might also help if you tell your mechanic that the DPF has not yet been cleaned. This will give him an initial clue. Depending on the workshop, the repair can be quite expensive, but it's better to solve the problem now before more damage occurs. After that, my Ranger ran like a kitten again. Hope you get it fixed quickly too! All the best with it, buddy!

Hey, thanks for the detailed explanation and valuable advice! I will definitely point out the DPF to my mechanic. Yes, you're right. It's better to bear the costs incurred now than later in the event of further damage. And yes, I also hope it goes as smoothly as it did for you. Keep your fingers crossed! Greetings and thanks again!

Hey Erika, before you buy a new DPF, I would first try to start a manual regeneration. Any Ford dealer should be able to do this. There is also the option of having the DPF cleaned, but it has to be removed for this. There are many companies on the Internet that offer this service. MFG
