Ford Endeavour 2013: Problems with engine judder and increased fuel consumption - Possible cause camshaft phasing?

Weird engine noise

Unsteady engine

Poor fuel economy

Valve adjustment noise

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2013 Ford Endeavour with a gasoline engine. The car just doesn't run smoothly anymore. The check engine light is on, the engine power is diminishing, the engine runs unevenly, it jerks when accelerating, guzzles a lot of fuel and makes strange noises, as if the valve adjustment is out of order. I suspect that the fault could be in the camshaft adjustment. Have any of you had similar experiences and can give me tips on how I can narrow down the problem or how this was rectified in the workshop? Many thanks in advance!

Hi, So, I have a bit of experience with cars, specifically with my 2011 Ford Explorer, which is also a Ford model and has similar features. I had the same problem and it turned out that the valve mechanism was defective. The repair at the garage cost me 405 euros, but the problem was fixed afterwards. Would you please give me more information about the engine size and model? Is it a small or large engine? Is it a base model or a higher model? This could help me to better narrow down the fault and help you further. Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! My Ford Endeavour has a 3.2L TDCi engine. It's actually the top of the range model with lots of extras. The mileage is 53273 km and the last service was about a month ago. Haven't had any problems so far, this jerking and the high fuel consumption have only occurred recently. Haven't had any problems with the valve mechanics yet either, but I really appreciate your assessment. Best regards!

Hi, With such specific problems it is always difficult to make an accurate diagnosis without actually seeing the car. But I share your suspicion that it could really be the camshaft timing. On my Ford Explorer, it turned out that the camshaft adjustment was also defective in addition to the valve mechanics, causing these symptoms. However, the repair cost extra, but was rectified after replacing the defective parts. I would suggest you have the car checked at a garage. It might be more expensive, but it is safer to rule out all possible causes. In addition, the high fuel consumption will also cost you money in the long run if the problem is not solved. I hope you find a solution soon and that your car runs smoothly again! Good luck and best wishes!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply and the helpful information! Yes, you're right, I really should take my car to the garage and have it checked thoroughly so I can find out the exact cause. It makes sense that the high fuel consumption can also be costly in the long run. I will try to get an appointment as soon as possible! Thanks again for your support! Take care and best wishes!
