Fiat Tipo 2016 Experiencing Drop in Power, Engine Noise, and Decreased Fuel Efficiency

Poor fuel economy

Weird engine noise

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Hey! I've got a 2016 Fiat Tipo, gasoline type, clocked about 169,000km. Recently, I started noticing that the check engine light pops on, there's less power than usual, it jerks a bit while accelerating, my MPG isn't what it used to be, and there's this odd noise coming from the engine, kinda like knocking. I'm suspecting it might be an issue with knocking combustion in a cylinder. Previously had a rough experience with a mechanic, so I thought about reaching out here for some advice. Anyone had a similar problem? How'd your mechanic handle it? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I've got a 2013 Fiat Bravo, and it started showing similar symptoms a while back - jerky acceleration, lower MPG, engine light, and that weird knocking noise. Sounds awfully like what you're experiencing. It turned out to be deposits in the combustion chamber on mine. Contaminants from low-quality fuel can over time, build up in the combustion chamber, messing with the spark plugs and overall performance. It's not your everyday wear and tear, and can indeed cause serious issues if left unhanded. Last time I took my car to the garage, the mechanic had to do a top engine clean to remove these deposits. While not as easy as an oil change, it completely fixed the issue with the chambers, and my Bravo was back to its usual self. I reckon you'd definitely want to get that check engine light read and grab a professional opinion though. Even if it's the deposits, there could be something else causing it. Best of luck!

Hey, thanks for the quick response! Your issue really does sound like what I'm experiencing with my Fiat Tipo. I'll add a top engine clean to my list of things to check with the mechanic. Out of curiosity, do you recall, offhand, the ballpark figure you had to pay for this fix? Also, have you encountered any additional problems related to this issue since then? Cheers!

Hey there! Glad my previous message was helpful. As for your questions, the top engine clean to get rid of those nasty deposits in my combustion chamber set me back about 425 Euro. Kinda pricy, but hey, it did the trick. As for your second question, since getting that fix, I haven't had any more trouble with knocking in the cylinders. Seems the clean-up was all it needed. It's been running fair smooth since then, like it got its groove back, you know? Just a note though don't forget it's just what worked for my 2013 Fiat Bravo, so your experience with your 2016 Fiat Tipo might be a bit different. Definitely get your friendly neighbourhood mechanic to give it a good once-over. Best of luck with sorting it out!

Hey! Can't thank you enough for this information; I really appreciate it. 425 Euro, huh? Seems a bit steep but if it gets my Tipo up and running without any more of these problems, it's worth it. I'm a bit relieved to hear you've had no additional problems since the cleanup. It's a good sign, fingers crossed for mine to return to its prime as well. Knowing that it worked for your Bravo gives me some hope though. I'm planning to take the car in to my local mechanic tomorrow. I'll make sure he checks for deposits in the combustion chamber and look for other potential problems. Once again, thanks a bunch for sharing your experience! Cheers and take care!
