Fiat Sedici 2014 Experiences Check Engine Light Warning and Unstable Performance: Possible Crankshaft Sensor Issue

Engine shuts off by itself

Longer cold start time

|

Loss of engine power

Car won't start

Check engine light on

|

Unsteady engine

Hey, I'm having a bit of a problem with my 2014 Fiat Sedici with a gas engine, ran about 160,988 km so far. The check engine light is on, experience longer cold starts, power loss, the engine acts weirdly, sometimes even shuts off & at over instances, wouldn't start at all! I suspect it could be a crankshaft sensor issue, given the symptoms. Have any of you faced something like this with your cars? If yes, how was your experience with your mechanic? Any insight would be a big help, given my last not-so-great experience with a mechanic. Thanks!

Hey there, just read your post and I can completely relate. I own a 2011 Fiat Bravo and went through the same drill, about 145,000 km on the clock back then. Engine light stayed on, struggled with cold starts and had some serious power drop-offs. Felt like my car had lost its heart. Definitely, wasn't a smooth ride. Turns out, your suspicion could be right. With these symptoms, I also thought it was the crankshaft sensor. Took it to my usual garage and got it confirmed. Yep, the crankshaft sensor wiring harness was defective. The issue was indeed pretty serious, it's like the car’s brain getting wrong info about the crankshaft's position, messing up with engine's overall work. They had to replace the entire wiring harness and the connector. Trust me, you don't wanna ignore this. Get it checked out at a trustworthy garage. Overall the experience wasn't too traumatic, and haven't seen those problems since. Hopefully, you get your machine sorted too. Don't let one bad mechanic ruin the overall picture for you. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the quick response! It sounds very much like my situation. I'm glad to hear you managed to resolve it without too much stress. Makes me a little more confident about getting mine looked at. Do you remember how much you paid to fix it? And, cross-fingers, has anything similar or related cropped up on your Fiat Bravo since the repair? Really appreciate your help and advice! Cheers!

Hey, no worries at all! I'm glad I could help. As for the costs, the whole repair bill to fix that pesky Crankshaft sensor wiring issue came up to about 170 quid. Not exactly chump change, but trust me, it was worth it seeing as how flawlessly the car has been running since the fix. And to answer your other query, my Fiat Bravo has been acting like a dream - no problems, no glitches, and absolutely no sensor malfunctions since that entire ordeal. I haven't had any related or similar issues come up post the repair, so fingers crossed it stays that way! Hope everything turns out alright for you and your Fiat Sedici too. Good luck!

Wow, this is an eye-opener! Your insight is greatly appreciated. Gonna cost me a bit, but as you pointed out, it's well worth it. Can't wait to get my Fiat Sedici running smoothly again like your Fiat Bravo. I'll definitely take your advice and find a trustworthy garage, take my baby in, and hope for the best. Fingers crossed everything goes as smooth as yours. Much obliged for your time and helpful words, fella! Cheers!
