Fiat Sedici '07 Facing Starting Issues and Electrical Signals: Seeking Advice and Recommendations

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Car won't start

Dim or flickering lights

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hey, fellow car enthusiasts! I'm having some trouble with my '07 Fiat Sedici, petrol engine, with about 78k on the odo. Starting has been troubling, and I've noticed a weak battery signal, dim and flickering lights, and a warning light on the speedo. Last time I brought it to a mechanic, let's just say it wasn't a great experience. So before I head that route again, anyone had a similar issue? Could this be related to some sort of error message? Just trying to arm myself with some knowledge before I choose my next step. Any advice and mechanic recommendations are much appreciated!

Hey there! It sure sounds like you're tackling quite the saga with your '07 Sedici. My experience with my '06 Fiat Punto might give you a bit of insight. I experienced something similar last year - sudden starting issues, dim lights, and a worrying little light on my dash that refused to go away. My instincts told me it was the battery, but boy, was I wrong! Turned out it was the control unit's cable connection, and the link to the BUS system of the car that was throwing fits. Even though this wasn't exactly a walk in the park, my mechanic reassured me that it's not as dreadful as it seems. This is because these systems are kind of like the brain of the car, and when the brain's connections are a bit wonky, then you'll likely notice these quirky issues. In my case, the control unit needed a bit of TLC, so my mechanic sorted the cable connection, and made sure everything was singing with the BUS system again. Once that was sorted, the car was back on track. Let's just say, it's not an unfixable disaster. Just make sure you take it to a pro who knows their way around a Fiat. Give your local Fiat specialist a ring, they should be able to help you get back on the motorway again. Hope this helps! Safe driving and good luck!

Hey, cheers for sharing your experience with your Punto! It's reassuring to know that it might not be as serious as it seems. I can't believe it was your control unit cable connection giving you grief - who would have guessed that? Speaking of mechanics, do you happen to remember what the damage to your wallet was when it was all said and done? Just trying to brace myself for the potential cost here! And since your fix, any other significant issues crop up related to that? Really appreciate your help! Gosh, car problems, eh? Always an adventure. Safe travels to you too!

Hey, no worries, happy to help out a fellow Fiat driver! To answer your question, mates, it was about €260.00 to get the defective cable connection of the control unit fixed up, which included getting it singing harmoniously with the BUS system again. Yeah, it wasn't exactly my idea of a fun budget surprise, but hey - it's a lot better than being stuck at the side of the road, right? And when it comes to your second question - since going to the mechanic, I haven't seen that pesky little error message come back. It's been smooth cruising since then, so I reckon it was money well spent. Just make sure you take it to a specialist for your Fiat, they genuinely make all the difference! Anyway, fingers crossed for your Sedici! May you have the same successful repair story as I did! Can't wait to see you back on the road. Safe travels!

Thank you so much for the input and the estimated wallet damage for the repair! Euro 260 isn't exactly small change, but if it means a safer and smoother ride, then I suppose it's more of an investment than an expense, right? Your story does make me feel better knowing it might not be a gigantic problem. I'll have a chat with a Fiat specialist, keeping our fingers crossed that this saga will soon come to an end. Thanks again for the help and support! Here's hoping I'll soon follow your smooth cruising story. Be well and always safe on the road. Cheers!
