Fiat Mobi 2020: Addressing Oil Light Alert, Metal Shavings, and Warning Light Issues

Oil light on

Metal shavings in oil

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey I'm having a bit of a headache with my 2020 Fiat Mobi (gasoline, 128k km mileage). Recently, the oil light turned on, I found metal shavings in the oil, and there's this pesky warning light on the speedo. I'm thinking this could be related to a dodgy oil level sensor. Last time I was at my mechanic, things didn't exactly go well so I'm looking for advice here. Anyone experience similar issues? What was your fix and how did your mechanic handle it? Thanks a bundle for any insights!

Hey. Had a similar issue with my 2017 Fiat Punto not too long ago. On my end, the culprit turned out to be, yes you guessed right, a faulty oil level sensor cable! I also noted some metal shavings in the oil like you did. Definitely a bit unnerving seeing that. Now, here's how my mechanic handled it, get this straight. First, he brought up the codes to make sure. Then he started with checking the wiring to the sensor, followed by a closer look on the sensor itself. He found that there was a loose connection, and given the situation with the metal shavings, he decided to replace the sensor. He handed the car back to me in a few hours. Also, it wasn't a small issue. The oil level sensor is there for a reason. It lets you know if oil's running low or if there's another problem. So absolutely critical to get it fixed pronto, otherwise, it could potentially lead to a catastrophic engine failure. Glad I got it sorted in mine. Your 2020 Mobi seems to be showing similar symptoms. My advice is to get it checked out ASAP. Hope my experience helps you out! Cheers!

Wow, I had a feeling it might be that pesky sensor! Good to know I'm not alone. Thanks heaps for sharing your experience. Could you tell me roughly how much it set you back to get it resolved? And since then, have you run into anything else related to this? Cheers!

Hey there, Ah yeah, the costs! You did remind me of the only thing that stung a bit! So, fixing that oil level sensor cable connection set me back around 165€. A fair bit of an amount, but worth it considering the potential damages if we turn a blind eye, right? And since I got it fixed, my Fiat's been running smoother than a hot knife through butter! All those warning lights have disappeared, and there's been no hint of those troublesome shavings in any recent oil checks. Spotting the faulty sensor was a solid catch, and the mechanic's quick work seems to have completely resolved that issue. I should also mention that the oil light hasn’t blinked since then – touch wood! So all good on this side! Catch you later and best of luck with your Mobi!

That's really comforting to hear, even if not so much for my wallet! €165 is a bit of a sting, but you're right, avoiding a catastrophic engine failure is definitely worth it. Looks like I'll need to find myself a new mechanic and get it sorted. It's great to hear that you haven't run into any similar problems since. Thanks a ton for easing my concerns. Looks like it's time to roll up my sleeves and make a few phone calls. Take care and safe driving with your Fiat!
