Fiat Croma 2009: Troubleshooting ABS Warning Light, Stiff Brake Pedal, and Faulty Brake Lights

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

ABS warning light

Hey everyone, I'm experiencing some bizarre issues with my 2009 model Fiat Croma. The ABS warning light is on, the brake pedal feels stiff and unresponsive, the ABS/DSC system seems out of service and brake lights aren't working properly. Also, a mysterious warning light appeared on my speedometer. After some research, I'm suspecting it could be due to a faulty brake pedal position sensor. Has anyone dealt with a similar problem and how did your garage handle it? Any insights or tips would be super helpful.

Hey there! I had similar trouble with my 2007 Fiat Bravo. Fair to say, I'm no mechanic but I tinker a bit. The issue was a personal error on my part, embarrassingly. I had incorrectly connected the battery cables, messed up the ABS system and brake lights. I took it to my local friendly garage and, much to my slightly red-faced relief, it didn't cost me a dime. Always double-check if there are other personal errors as it can save you a pretty penny! Oh, and by the way, have you done any recent work on your Croma or has there been any incident that may have triggered these faults? It might help us shed more light on, possibly, what's going on with your car.

Hey, thanks for the response and your tips! I haven't done any recent work on my Croma. No incident either that I can think of, honestly. Last had her serviced when my odometer was showing 90374 km. Been pretty regular with servicing and upkeep until then. I'll definitely double check for any personal errors. Also, planning a visit to the garage soon just to set my mind at ease. I appreciate your insights!

Hey, no problem at all, happy to help! It's pretty wise of you to have a regular check-ups on your Fiat. Sometimes even regular servicing can't prevent these eerie issues from happening, cars can be weird like that. So, if you didn't do any recent work or experienced any incidents then it might not be a personal error. Given what's going on, it could be something more mechanical or electrical in the ABS system or the wiring. The brake pedal position sensor not responding might also come into play here, it's hard to tell without a proper diagnostic. Definitely get it checked out at your local garage. They'll probably hook it up to their diagnostic machine and will be able to tell you for sure what's going on. In the meantime, drive safe! Brakes are nothing to mess around with. Let me know how it goes, I'm curious to know what the issue is now. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice and well wishes! You're absolutely right, messing with brakes is a no-go, safety comes first. I'm headed to the garage first thing tomorrow and will have those diagnostics run for sure. Your curiosity is contagious, so I'll definitely keep you posted on what the issue turns out to be. Hopefully, it'll provide useful knowledge for others in similar situations. Appreciate all the help and your time, my friend. Drive safe and take care too! Cheers!
