Fiat 124 Overheating Issue and Check Engine Light Concerns

Overheating

Check engine light on

Hey, got a bit of a headache with my trusty 2018 Fiat 124, gasoline engine with about 32,216 km on it. She's heating up more than usual, and that pesky check engine light is lit. Last wrench-spinner I saw did me dirty, so I'm leery now. I'm thinking it might be an issue with the auxiliary coolant pump. Anyone else had something similar? What was your experience with your mechanic? Would love to hear your stories. Thanks!

Hey there, I totally get it. Had a similar snag with my 2015 Fiat 124 a while back. The dashboard was lighting up like a Christmas tree and the heat was off the charts. I initially thought it had something to do with the thermostat. But after I took it to my trusted garage (yeah, finding a good mechanic is a tough gig), turned out it was a cable connection defect causing all the fuss. Seems like these little wires can completely muck up your ride, who would've thought, eh? My bloke at the garage tell me there is a leakage pathway, allowing coolant to escape from the cooling system, which causes the engine to heat up and the light to shine. No surprise, replacing the defective cable connection sort out all the issues. Dreadful work apparently, had to rip apart half the engine to do it, but luckily nothing too serious in the end. Hope that helps! Could maybe be what's ailing your Fiat. Do check it out and let me know. Best of luck to ya!

Hey, thanks for the swift reply! I find it amazing how those small buggers can throw the whole engine into chaos! I reckon I'll have to dig deep in that Fiat of mine as well. I'm just curious, can you recall roughly what replacing the cable connection set you back? And have you run into any more trouble of that sort since the fix? Keep your fingers crossed for me, hope it's nothing major. Cheers!

Hey! No problem, always happy to help a fellow Fiat owner. Yeah, you're spot on, those tiny wires can really wreck havoc, crazy isn't it? The overall costs to get my ride back on track was about 170 Euro, including labor. Bit of a pinch at the wallet, I tell you, but worth it in the end. Since getting it all sorted out by my mechanic, everythings been runnin' smooth. That piecey auxiliary coolant pump problem was sorted as well. It was a bit of a bother before, but it grinches no more, my. So, cheer up, hopefuly it's the same for your ride and nothing serious. And if it is, well, you'll be prepared already, eh? Let me know how it turns out. Good luck and fingers crossed over here!

Thanks a ton for that. Your story gives me a bit of hope, cause 170 Euro is better than coughing up a lot more if it's something trickier. I'll be having a chat with my new mechanic in the morning about this, let's hope it doesn't turn into a hunt down the rabbit hole. Will share the updates, stay connected! Fingers crossed! Cheers.

Let our mechanics help you!
