Oil Temperature Sensor Issue, need Advice Having trouble with my 2005 Chevy Matiz (gas engine, 12,511 KM). The dashboard's lighting up like a Christmas tree, oil pressure warning and check engine light both on. Got the error code read but feeling skeptical about my mechanic's diagnosis. They're saying it's a faulty engine oil temperature sensor, but my last visit to this shop left me with doubts. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Looking for second opinions before I commit to the repair. What was your experience with replacing the automotive sensor and what did it end up costing?

Had a similar issue on my 2008 Chevy Spark last month. The engine sensor warnings started exactly like yours, multiple dashboard lights, including oil pressure. Car diagnostics confirmed it was indeed the oil temperature sensor acting up. The problem was actually the wiring harness connecting to the sensor, corrosion had damaged the connection. The car repair involved replacing both the sensor unit and the damaged wiring. While not a major mechanical issue, it's important to address it promptly since faulty readings can trigger engine protection mode. My mechanic showed me the old automotive sensor, the connector pins were completely corroded. Always worth checking the wiring and connections before replacing the entire sensor unit. The repair itself took about 2 hours, including diagnostic time. If you're getting similar error codes, I'd definitely get it checked. The symptoms match classic oil temperature sensor failure patterns. Ignoring it could lead to inaccurate oil pressure readings and potential engine damage.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I've had a very similar situation with my Matiz recently. After getting those oil temperature warnings, I also found out it was a sensor issue. The car diagnostics pointed to the temp sensor, and the repair seemed pretty straightforward. Did you notice any other issues popping up after fixing the engine sensor? Also curious about the final cost, my mechanic quoted quite a range, and I'm wondering if the price I paid was reasonable.

Glad to update you on this! After getting my Chevy fixed up, everything's been running smooth as silk. The car diagnostics were spot on, it was definitely the faulty engine oil temperature sensor causing all that dashboard drama. The fix was actually pretty simple and cheaper than expected, just 95 € to repair the cable connection that had gone bad. The temperature sensor readings are now spot-on, and I haven't seen a single warning light since the repair. Looking back, the symptoms were classic signs of a wonky oil sensor, those multiple warning lights were just the car's way of saying the wiring needed attention. Haven't had a single issue pop up since the fix. The engine temperature readings are stable now, and the oil pressure warning disappeared completely. Honestly, it was worth every penny to get it sorted properly. The mechanic showed me the corroded connection they replaced, it was pretty obvious why the sensor wasn't working right. Sounds like we both dodged a bullet by getting it fixed when we did. These car sensor issues can sometimes mask bigger problems, but in our case, it was just the connection playing up. A properly working oil temperature sensor is crucial for keeping tabs on engine health.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I finally got the issue sorted out. Took it to a different mechanic this time, one my coworker recommended. The oil temperature sensor was indeed acting up, but it turned out to be a simple fix. The mechanic found corrosion in the wiring connection, just like others mentioned. They cleaned up the connection and replaced the faulty automotive sensor. The whole job took about an hour and cost me €120, parts and labor included. Way less than what the first shop quoted! The dashboard warnings cleared up right after the repair. The engine's running great now, and all sensor readings are back to normal. Really glad I got a second opinion on this one. Sometimes the simple fixes are the right ones. Just wanted to close the loop on this in case anyone else runs into similar oil sensor issues. Getting that second opinion definitely saved me some cash!
