Faulty Multifunction Steering Wheel Buttons on a 2017 Fiat 124: Seeking Suggestions and Recommendations for Reliable Mechanics

Hey I've got a 2017 Fiat 124, Gasoline engine, with a hefty 174,869km on the clock! I'm having a bit of a stressful moment here - my multifunction steering wheel buttons have abruptly stopped working. I reckon it's some sort of error on the wheel itself, but I just wanted to get your take on this. Anyone else experienced something similar with their Fiat or any other car? Also, good experiences with mechanics would be really appreciated since my last one wasn't too pleasant. Cheers!

Hey, had a similar issue with my ol' faithful, a 2014 Fiat 500, last year. All of a sudden, the steering wheel buttons went kaput. Thought I could manage it but it's annoying. It turned out to be a wire problem in the steering wheel module itself. From my humble experience, it's not a life-threatening issue but it's a bit of an irritant, especially, if your daily drive involves long distances and you use those multifunction buttons a lot. Took it to my local garage and we found out the cables inside the steering module were kinda defective. Had to change the whole module as wrapping or soldering the wires again wouldn't have been a long-term solution. So a heads-up, you may need to change the whole module, if the wires are the issue. Took it for a spin post the repairs and it's all been hunky-dory since then, touchwood! Hope you can sort it out without much of a fuss. Chin up! Cheers!

Hey there! Thanks for sharing your situation, certainly sounds quite similar to mine. Your advice is really reassuring - I was getting a bit of a headache over it. It's funny how something as minor as this becomes so grating when we're on those long journeys, right? I do fear I might have to replace the whole module, as you did. So, can you recall how much you had to shell out to get it all fixed? And has there been anything else that's crapped out since the repair? Thanks a ton! Cheers!

Hey again, Yeah, I hear ya! It's these minor things that end up being a real pain when they go wrong, especially on those endless drives. And about the cost, it set me back 95€. Yep, that was for sorting out the defective lining in the steering wheel module. The chap at the garage did a neat job and didn't break the bank! And since you asked, ever since the fix up, I haven't had any other drama with the steering wheel. It's been smooth sailing... or should I say smooth driving, ha! Got rid of that nag, which made my daily commute a whole lot easier, ya know. Good luck with your Fiat! Fingers crossed, you get it sorted without any problems. Just wanted to say, don't let it make you sweat too much. It's more of a nagging issue than a serious one. Cheers!

Hey. Thanks a heap for filling me in on the details! That doesn't sound too exorbitant on the pocket actually. I was bracing for worse! Also, it's so comforting to know that your Fiat has been behaving itself after the fix. I agree it's just a nagging issue, but you know, those can be the most infuriating ones! I'll probably head down to a local garage soon and see if they can help me out like your guy did. Regardless, thank you again for your wisdom! I really appreciate your time. Let's hope my Fiat 124 is as good as new after the repair! Keep cruising! Cheers!
