I also suspected that it had something to do with the control unit. In the end, it was the electronics that had given up the ghost. So it was definitely a more serious problem. The guys in the workshop removed the old control unit and fitted a new one. It took a while because they also had to touch some other parts, but in the end everything ran smoothly again.
