Failure and malfunctions in the 2015 Toyota Hilux: experiences and possible solutions

Hello everyone, I currently have a few problems with my 2015 Toyota Hilux (gasoline, 124,838 KM). When accelerating, black smoke comes out of the exhaust, the engine light comes on, the engine switches itself off from time to time, loses power and runs unevenly. In addition, the car jerks when accelerating, does not start, the engine dies at idle and vibrates violently. My guess is that the idle control is out of order. I would be really interested to know if any of you have had similar problems and what the experience was like at the mechanic? Especially as I had really bad luck on my last visit... Many thanks in advance for your help!

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Toyota Hilux is experiencing issues such as black smoke from the exhaust, engine light activation, engine shutdowns, power loss, uneven running, jerking during acceleration, and engine vibrations. These symptoms suggest a potential problem with the idle control valve, possibly due to a faulty cable or connector. A similar case was resolved by replacing the defective cable/plug on the idle control valve, which restored the vehicle's performance and drivability. It is recommended to have the vehicle checked by professionals to address these issues effectively.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2012 Toyota Hilux. It turned out that the cable/connector on the idle control valve was faulty. My car had exactly the same symptoms as yours: black smoke, check engine light, occasional engine shutdown, loss of power and rough running. The mechanics carried out a thorough examination and made the diagnosis. It was not an easy repair as they had to work in the engine compartment and replace the faulty cable/plug. It was one of the more serious repairs I had to go through because the problem not only affected performance, but also compromised the safety and drivability of the vehicle. So it's absolutely important that you take your car to the garage and have it checked by professionals. All the best,

Hey, thanks for your feedback! Sounds like a lot of trouble with the idle control valve... Do you happen to remember how much you paid the mechanic for the repair? And were there any problems with your Hilux afterwards? Thanks and best regards!

Hey, of course I still remember. I paid €155 to repair the defective cable/plug on the idle control valve. A tidy sum, but since then the Hilux has been running like clockwork and the idle control fault has been rectified. No strange noises, no jerking, just clean and smooth driving. So I would say the investment was definitely worth it! So, no more problems with my Hilux since then - everything is fine! Keep at it and get yours fixed. You'll notice the difference. Greetings!

Hey, thanks for the detailed answer! I was really hoping it would be something simpler, but at least now I know where to start. 155 is not exactly cheap, but as you said - if the car runs again afterwards, then it's certainly worth it. Better than constantly driving with the fear of the engine cutting out again at any moment... I will follow your advice and take my Toyota to the garage. I hope everything runs as smoothly afterwards as it did for you! Thanks again and take care! Greetings!
