Failing Injectors Plague Infiniti EX Fix Inside?

Car won't start

|

Loss of engine power

|

Poor fuel economy

|

Longer cold start time

|

Jerking on acceleration

|

Check engine light on

Hey everyone, I've got a 2012 Infiniti EX that's giving me headaches lately. The engine check light is on, it takes forever to start when cold, and I'm dealing with power loss and jerking during acceleration. Fuel consumption has gone through the roof, and sometimes the car won't start at all. I suspect it might be related to the smooth running control system. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? I'd really appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and what the fix ended up being. Thanks!

Hi there! I had a pretty similar situation with my 2014 Infiniti QX50 last year. I have some experience working on cars, but this was definitely a workshop job. The symptoms were almost identical to what you're describing. After taking it to my trusted mechanic, they found heavily contaminated intake channels, which was messing with the whole system. The fix cost me around 425 Euro, including cleaning and labor. Made a huge difference car runs like new now. What's your mileage? Also, have you noticed any unusual exhaust smoke? This could help pinpoint if we're dealing with the same issue. If it's what I suspect, get it checked soon waiting made my fuel consumption even worse before I fixed it.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My mileage is 89656 KM and had my last service about 3 months ago. I haven't noticed any unusual exhaust smoke, but I'll definitely keep an eye on that. Your situation does sound really similar to what I'm experiencing. I'm relieved to hear it wasn't something more serious in your case. I'll probably take it to the shop this week better safe than sorry, especially with these fuel prices nowadays!

Hey again! Yeah, definitely get it checked out soon. When I took mine in at around 95,000 KM, they also found that the problem had started affecting my fuel injectors. The contamination in the intake channels was actually causing irregular fuel distribution, which explained the jerking during acceleration that we both experienced. Just a heads up when they cleaned mine, they also recommended replacing the fuel injectors as a preventive measure since they were showing signs of wear. I decided to go for it, and honestly, it was worth the extra cost. The total came to about 800 Euro with the additional work, but it made a massive difference in how the car runs. Since you mentioned your last service was 3 months ago, did they do any fuel system cleaning then? If not, you might want to ask about that specifically when you take it in. My mechanic said these issues are pretty common in our Infinitis once they hit the 80-90K mark. Keep us posted on what you find out! Always interested to hear how these things turn out.

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! No, they didn't do any fuel system cleaning during my last service wish I'd known about this earlier! I've already called my mechanic and got an appointment for Thursday morning. I'll definitely mention the fuel injectors and intake channels to them. Really appreciate you sharing the cost info too helps me prepare for what might be coming. I'll make sure to update the thread once I get it sorted. You've been super helpful! Fingers crossed it's a similar fix to yours and I can get my car running smoothly again.
