Thanks for sharing your experience! Yeah, I've got 19459 KM on the clock since my latest service, and the symptoms you described match mine perfectly. It definitely gets worse when I'm running multiple electronics, especially the AC and radio together. The stalling usually happens after driving for about 15-20 minutes. I was hoping it wouldn't be the alternator, but sounds like I might be looking at a similar repair bill. Did you go with OEM parts or aftermarket for your repair?
Hey again! Thanks for those extra details yeah, that behavior with multiple electronics and the timing of the stalls pretty much confirms what I experienced. For my FX, I actually went with OEM parts. My mechanic recommended it since he'd seen some aftermarket alternators fail within a year on Infinitis. The OEM part was pricier (about 580€ just for the part) but I figured it was worth it for the peace of mind. My car's been running perfectly since the repair no more electrical gremlins! Just a heads up though while they were in there, they also found my serpentine belt was showing some wear (probably from the failing alternator), so I had that replaced too. Might want to have them check yours while they're at it. Added about 65€ to my bill but better safe than sorry, right? One thing I learned from this whole experience don't wait too long to get it fixed. I tried to "manage" it for a couple weeks by minimizing electrical usage, but that's really just asking for trouble. Almost got stranded once when it died in traffic. Not fun at all! Let me know how it goes with your repair!
Thanks so much for the detailed advice! I really appreciate the heads-up about the serpentine belt definitely don't want any surprise issues down the road. You've convinced me to go with OEM parts too. Better to do it right the first time than risk having to do it twice with cheaper parts. I'm calling my mechanic first thing tomorrow to schedule the repair. Just hoping I can make it there without getting stranded like you almost did! Will let you know how it turns out. Thanks again for sharing your experience it's really helped me figure out what I'm dealing with here.
Hey there! I can relate to your situation as I had almost identical issues with my 2014 Infiniti FX Diesel last year. I have some experience working on cars, but electrical problems are tricky. My symptoms were exactly like yours dim lights, weak battery, unusual stalling. Took it to my trusted workshop and yep, it was a bad generator (alternator). Total repair came to about 960€ including parts and labor. They had it fixed in about a day. What's your mileage and have you noticed any warning lights on the dash? Also, does it happen more when you're using multiple electrical accessories? This info might help confirm if you're dealing with the same issue.
