Experiencing Overheating and Check Engine Alert in 2023 Renault Arkana Hybrid: Potential Electric Coolant Pump Glitch

Check engine light on

|

Overheating

Hey all, I've got a 2023 Renault Arkana Hybrid with around 115k on the clock. Lately, I've been dealing with some overheating issues and the check engine light won't quit. I'm thinking it might be a glitch with the electric coolant pump. Had a pretty lousy experience at the mechanic last time, so I'm a bit wary. Anyone run into this before or had similar experiences with their mechanic? Would appreciate any advice or reassurances. Cheers.

Hey, I completely understand your situation. Last year I faced a similar issue with my 2020 Renault Megane. Noticed some unusual overheating signs, and of course the dreaded check engine light came on. It turned out the root cause was my coolant pump control unit's faulty cable. Talk about a nightmare! The overheating symptoms, like in your case, were just an additional headache. Had to get the cable on the pump/control unit replaced, definitely seemed like a pretty big deal at the time. Thankfully, the issue got sorted post the repairs and the car hasn't acted up since then. Hope this helps, and you get things running smoothly soon. Stay strong.

That sounds pretty close to what I'm experiencing! This Renault Arkana Hybrid has been quite the ride. Bloody check engine light has been a persistent little bugger. Can't forget the good old overheating either. That cable issue you mentioned could be the culprit here too. By any chance, can you recall the cost of the repair you've done? I'm trying to budget for things but it's a bit of an unknown without any frame of reference. And has anything else cropped up since getting the control unit's faulty cable replaced? Hoping it's not a "fix one thing, two more problems appear" kinda situation. Cheers for the help!

Hey again! Ah, the ol' money question, right? Look, to get that pesky cable on the pump/control unit sorted, I was out by about 95€. It's not peanuts, but hey, at least it gets the problem fixed and your ride running smoothly again. As for your other question, you'll be glad to know that once I got the cable fixed, the electric coolant pump started behaving. Haven't had a problem with it since. No gremlins popping up after the fix. It's been nothing but smooth sailing. So don't stress too much, if it's the same issue, you should be back on the road without those nasty warning lights in no time. Hang in there! Cheers!

Thanks a bunch! Looks like we're heading down the 'cable on the pump/control unit' path then. It's a relief to know it was a one-time thing for you. The €95 ain't a small dent, but if it gets old faithful running without smoke signals, I say it's worth it. I'll book an appointment with a new mechanic. Something about a bloke who specialises in hybrids, seems like a decent fella. Hopefully, the outcome will be just as smooth as yours. Really appreciate the insights. Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best for my Arkana. Cheers!

My overheating warning light came on twice on the freeway since then I've driven about 160kms and nothing should worry me any more. Waiting Sincerely

If your overheating warning light came on twice, it's definitely something you should not ignore. Overheating can cause serious damage to your engine. It could be due to a variety of reasons such as a faulty thermostat, a leak in the cooling system, a bad water pump, or a clogged radiator. I would recommend checking the coolant level first. If it's low, fill it up and monitor if the light comes on again. If the problem persists, it's best to have a mechanic inspect your vehicle to avoid any potential damage.
