Wow! You hit quite a snag with your Sportage too. Kinda comforting to know I'm not alone in this boat. Did you have to shell out a fortune for that flush and fill you got done? And any other problems since? Gotta be honest, getting your gear running smooth must've been a massive weight off your shoulders. I reckon I'll definitely get my Kia Bongo checked for the same. After all, wouldn't want the old girl chugging along on the wrong fuel, can't imagine that’d be too good for the old ticker! And I'll certainly keep a hawk-eye on the oil they're using next time. Thanks for that truly appreciate it!
Hey again! Yeah, it was a bit of a ride with the Sportage, not gonna lie! As for the cost, I paid roughly about 175.00 € to rectify that oil mix-up. They'd used the wrong engine oil, so it had to be all cleaned out and replaced with the right stuff. Not exactly cheap, but certainly beats a knackered engine! After that oil issue, I also got that engine oil pressure switch you mentioned earlier checked, turned out it was defective after all. But hey, a quick fix and she's been humming along nicely since then, no problems at all. it was such a relief to see that annoying warning light finally go off! So yeah, I'd definitely suggest getting your Bongo checked out. No vehicle deserves to be running on the wrong oil. Plus, once you sort it out, it feels like you got a whole new machine! All the best with that and keep us posted!
You're not wrong. That €175 bill isn't exactly pocket change, but if it saves my Bongo's engine from a real catastrophe, that's cash well spent in my books! I reckon, I'll swing by the shop first thing tomorrow to get that oil checked and sorted. After that, I'll get them to have a peek at the engine oil pressure switch as well; I don't want to get stranded somewhere due to an unexpected engine failure. Thanks a ton for all your insights and help. Without doubt, I’ll keep you all in the loop about the progress. Fingers crossed that things will turn out as smooth as it did for your Sportage. Cheers!
Hey there! I recently ran into an analogous issue with my 2015 Kia Sportage. The symptoms were parallel - oil light popping on, metal flakes in the oil and the warning light just wouldn't quit. Turned out, I had wrong engine oil filled during the last service. I definitely understand the headache this gets, especially when you've had stuffy experiences with mechanics before. For my ride, the first step the mechanic did was to flush out the incorrect oil. He then filled it with the right grade recommended by the manufacturer. Also did an oil filter change because those metal shavings had contaminated it. The issue wasn’t minor as the wrong oil was hampering the engine’s smooth operation and the engine oil pressure switch was alright. Luckily for me, after the flush and fill, my Kia was back to normal. My advice? Always double-check the kind of oil they're putting in at the shop. It seems to be a common mistake, surprisingly. Hope this helps and best of luck with your Bongo!
