Experiences and solutions for possible additional battery problems with the Peugeot 206 petrol engine from 2001

Dim or flickering lights

Weak battery when starting the engine

Has anyone had experience with a Peugeot 206 petrol engine from 2001 where the auxiliary battery may be faulty? In my case, it shows signs such as a weak battery when starting and dimming or flickering lights. How did you solve this in your garage? Any help will be appreciated!

Hello, I'm not an expert, but I do have some experience with cars. I had a similar problem with my Peugeot 207 petrol engine from 2003. The symptoms were the same - weak starting and flickering lights. I had it checked at a garage at the time and it turned out that the battery was actually faulty. It cost me 290 euros to replace the battery and the problem was solved. I would need a bit more information to be able to help you better. When was the last time you changed the battery? And how often is the vehicle in use? Are there any other symptoms you've noticed? I hope this helps a little!

Hey, thanks for your feedback! Most of the time it really is the battery. In fact, the last time I had my Peugeot serviced was 17918 KM ago. At that time, the battery was also checked and everything was fine. But for the last two weeks or so it's been acting up. The vehicle is used normally, i.e. almost every day. Maybe I should go back to the garage and have it checked, but I wanted to ask about experiences and solutions here first. So did the battery change get you completely out of trouble? Have you had no more problems? And 290 euros is a lot of money... somehow I'm still hoping for a cheaper solution. Could it also be the alternator?

Hi, it's good that you've already become aware of the problem. If I understand correctly, you haven't changed the battery for quite a long time, have you? With my Peugeot, I haven't actually had any further problems after changing the battery. Of course, there can always be other causes, such as the alternator, but in my case it was definitely the battery. Of course, 290 euros is a bit of money, but remember that a broken battery can of course also lead to other damage, which can then become even more expensive. In addition, you will have to replace the battery in such a case anyway. A cheaper solution might be to replace the battery yourself if you know how to do it. This could save you labor costs. But to be on the safe side, I would recommend that you go back to your specialist garage and have it checked. Symptoms like yours should definitely not be ignored. It's always better to be on the safe side, especially when it comes to the safety of your car! I hope this helps you and you find a good solution!

Hi, thanks again for your detailed advice! It's been a while since I changed the battery and maybe it really is time to do so. Your suggestion of changing the battery myself sounds interesting as I'm trying to cut costs. But you're right, safety first and I should have it checked by a professional. I will now book an appointment at my garage and hope that the problem will then be solved. Your experience and advice was very helpful, thank you! Maybe it really is just the battery and nothing more serious... I'll keep my fingers crossed! Thanks again and all the best!
