Exhaust smoke, check engine light and DPF regeneration on Seat Alhambra Diesel 2018

Check engine light on

|

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

|

DPF regeneration failure

|

Strong exhaust smell

|

Jerking on acceleration

Hey guys! I've got a problem with my Seat Alhambra Diesel from 2018 (almost 200,000 km run). When accelerating, black smoke comes out of the exhaust, the indicator light from the engine lights up, the regeneration of the DPF doesn't seem to work, the car jerks when accelerating and it smells extremely of exhaust fumes. I think this is due to the diesel particulate filter being heavily loaded. Has anyone had similar experiences and can tell me how it went at the mechanic? Last time it cost me a lot of money and I'd like to avoid that next time. Thanks for your help!

Hey guys, thanks for the quick and helpful replies. I went to the mechanic last week and they also replaced my DPF. The cost was around 1700 euros for me. It's not cheap, of course, but my car is now running perfectly again and I hope it stays that way. So thanks again to everyone, your experiences and tips have reassured me and helped me. Well then, have a good trip and see you all next time when my beloved Seat starts acting up again.

Hey, I had the same problem with my 2015 Seat Leon. As you suspect, it was actually a heavily loaded diesel particulate filter - so nothing serious. On my last visit to the garage, the filter simply had to be regenerated, after which everything ran smoothly again. So you don't need to worry, it should be easy to fix. Hope this helps!

Hey thanks for your experience. I've just read your discussion and have exactly the same problem with my Audi A4. It's reassuring to hear that the problem isn't that bad. Can you remember approximately how much you paid for the repair? And have you had any problems with the car since? Would like to keep an eye on everything so as not to be surprised. Thanks in advance!

Hey, no problem! It was very easy on my Seat at the time and I think it cost €45. After the visit to the garage, the diesel particulate filter was fine again. However, the garage told me that if the filter starts acting up again, it can quickly cost more than €1000 - but so far my car is running like a champ again. Ultimately, you're right of course, you don't want any nasty surprises. I hope your car is back in shape soon!

Hey guys! I had the same problem with my VW Passat Diesel with just over 200,000 km. Seems like this diesel particulate filter really doesn't last forever. It was exactly like yours: black smoke, strong exhaust odor and jerking when accelerating. I also replaced the filter and since then there have been no more problems. They had to replace my diesel particulate filter, which cost me around 1500 euros, which is pretty expensive compared to your figures. Never thought it would be an issue with mileage like that, but you never stop learning, do you? I hope this helps you! And don't worry, it'll drive like normal again afterwards.
