Hey, I had the same problem with my 2015 Seat Leon. As you suspect, it was actually a heavily loaded diesel particulate filter - so nothing serious. However, the garage told me that if the filter starts acting up again, it can quickly cost more than €1000 - but so far my car is running like a champ again. It was exactly like yours: black smoke, strong exhaust odor and jerking when accelerating. I also replaced the filter and since then there have been no more problems.
