Thanks for sharing your experience with the transmission repair, sounds exactly like what I am dealing with. My Escalade is showing the same symptoms now, especially those grinding noises during shifts. Do you recall how much you ended up paying for the complete repair? Just want to get a rough idea of costs before heading to a transmission shop. Also curious if you had any more transmission issues pop up after getting the temperature sensor and fluid replaced? My automatic transmission has been shifting really rough lately, especially when cold, which matches what you described about the sensor readings being off. Just hoping to avoid a complete transmission failure like you mentioned.

Good news to report back, got the transmission issues fully resolved after taking it to a certified transmission repair specialist. The faulty transmission oil temperature sensor was indeed the primary culprit, just as suspected. They also discovered the gearbox oil level was significantly below spec, which explained the rough shifting patterns. Total repair costs came to 365€, covering both the sensor replacement and getting the transmission fluid levels properly adjusted. Since the fix, the automatic transmission has been shifting smoothly with no warning lights or error codes. The grinding noise completely disappeared after the repair. Have put about 15000km on it since the transmission repair with zero issues. The temperature sensor readings are now consistent, and the transmission performs perfectly in both cold and hot conditions. The investment was worth every cent to prevent potential catastrophic transmission damage. Worth mentioning that having both issues addressed simultaneously, the sensor and fluid levels, was crucial for resolving the problem completely. Regular transmission fluid checks are now part of my maintenance routine to avoid similar situations.

Since getting my Escalade back from the transmission repair shop last month, I can finally share how it all worked out. Found a specialized transmission shop through a and took it in for diagnostics. They confirmed the overheating problems were mainly due to the faulty temperature sensor, plus the transmission oil was way too low. The automatic transmission repair included replacing the sensor, doing a complete fluid flush, and installing a new filter. Their diagnostic equipment picked up some metal fragments in the old fluid, so glad I didn't wait any longer. Total bill came to 480€, bit more than expected but worth every cent considering the potential damage I could have faced. The grinding noise is completely gone now and the transmission shifts perfectly smooth again, even during cold starts. Put about 2000km on it since the repair with zero warning lights or shifting issues. Huge relief after that scary limp mode experience. The shop did great work and even showed me all the old parts to explain what went wrong. Much better experience than my last mechanic.

Had identical symptoms on my 2020 Cadillac XT6 Diesel. The transmission sensor malfunction was causing erratic shifting and eventually triggered limp mode. The transmission temperature sensor was failing to provide accurate readings, which made the transmission control module react incorrectly. The repair involved replacing both the temperature sensor and dealing with a critically low transmission oil level. The transmission repair technician found metal particles in the old fluid, indicating potential internal wear. They performed a complete transmission oil flush, replaced the temperature sensor, and installed a new transmission filter. This turned out to be quite serious, if left unchecked, low transmission oil combined with faulty sensor readings could have led to complete transmission failure. The grinding noise you mention matches what I experienced, which was caused by inadequate lubrication due to low fluid levels. The fix required specialized diagnostic equipment to properly calibrate the new transmission sensor. Would strongly recommend finding a shop that specializes in transmission repair and has experience with modern Cadillac transmissions. Important to address this quickly before the overheating problems cause permanent damage to the transmission components. Would advise against driving the vehicle much in this condition, as continuing to operate with these symptoms risks major transmission damage.
