Erratic shifting and ABS warning light on 2007 Citroen C1: experience and workshop tips wanted

ABS warning light

Whining or grinding noises

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Hi folks, I have a problem with my 2007 Citroen C1 (diesel) with a mileage of around 123,000 KM. The automatic transmission shifts back and forth sporadically and irregularly, the ABS warning light comes on and a howling or grinding noise can be heard. I suspect that the problem could be related to the transfer case emergency running control. Has anyone had similar problems and can report any experiences with the workshop? It's important for me to understand what to expect from my next mechanic visit as I didn't have the best experience last time. Thanks for your help!

Hey, I recently had a similar problem with my 2010 Citroen C4. The symptoms were almost identical. After a visit to the garage, it turned out that the control unit was faulty. It didn't turn out to be a particularly serious problem, but it's definitely something that shouldn't be ignored. My car was practically unusable before it was fixed. Definitely think you should get it looked at. Good luck with that! See you soon!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds like a serious problem. Can you remember how much you paid to have the ECU repaired? And have there been any other problems or similar symptoms since then? I hope your Citroen has been running smoothly since then! Best regards!

Hey, we car enthusiasts have to stick together, don't we? I spent €525 on repairing the control unit. That was quite a chunk, but since then my Citroen has been running like clockwork, no joke really. The problem with the transfer case emergency running control, which I also suspected, was also fixed. No more howling or grinding noises. So far everything is running great, hopefully it stays that way! Good luck with your C1, hopefully everything is half as bad! Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the detailed reply and support! it really helps me understand what might be at stake with my upcoming mechanic visit. The 525€ sounds a bit high, but it gives me a sense of security to know that your Citroen has been running smoothly since its repair. And there's nothing like a car that runs like clockwork, is there? I'm going straight to the garage tomorrow. Hopefully my C1 will soon be back in top form too! I'll get back to you after the workshop visit and give you an update. See you soon, and thanks again! Best regards!
