Erratic gear changes and noises in the Audi Q7: experience and advice wanted

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Whining or grinding noises

Grinding noise when shifting gears

Greetings, I've got a bit of a problem with my old sucker, an Audi Q7 petrol engine, built in 2012, with quite a lot of mileage 389701 km. It's been showing weird symptoms recently - gear changes have been bumpy, there's been grinding noises when changing gear and a sort of whine or crunch in general. I was planning to have the transmission oil pressure cooler checked, but my last visit to the garage wasn't that great. Has anyone had similar experiences and can give me some tips? What are your experiences with your mechanic? Thanks in advance!

Hi, Hey, I totally understand what you mean. I have a 2015 Audi A6 and had roughly the same problem. Last time at the garage they found that my transmission control unit was faulty. It was definitely a serious problem because it was affecting the overall performance of the car. I would recommend having the transmission control unit and transmission oil filter checked. Personally, I always clear everything with my mechanic before anything is done. Good luck to you, brother! Greetings!

Hi, thanks for the tips, having the gearbox control unit checked is definitely on my list. Do you remember what you paid for the repair? And, was there anything new after the repair or did everything run smoothly afterwards? Best regards!

Hello, of course, no problem! I paid €265 for the repair of the cooling water plug/cable harness. But since the repair, everything has been running smoothly again, and I no longer even have the problems with the transmission oil pressure cooler malfunction. So all in all, the visit to the mechanic was definitely worth it. Take care and good luck with your car! Greetings!

Hello, Ah that's good to know. Even though €265 is no bargain, if it solves the problem I'm happy to pay it. I definitely feel better prepared now to face my mechanic. Thank you so much for the valuable advice! Take care and take care of yourself! Good bye!

To me your Audi Q7's symptoms suggest transmission issues, this is likely due to worn fluid, leaks, or worn components. I would suggest you start with a transmission fluid change and check for any leaks. A diagnostic scan and professional inspection would be my recommendation moving forward. All the best!
