Hey, you're right, it really was a mess. The repair cost me €1260, which is no mean feat, I know. But since I've been to the mechanic, the fault with the camshaft adjustment has been fixed and my car is running smoothly again. Nothing else has come up so far and the repair is holding up well. So it seems that the expensive price was justified. Hopefully you keep your luck and it's not that expensive for you. Good luck!

Thanks for the information, guys. I at least have an idea now and feel a bit more prepared. The experience you shared is really helpful, it gives me at least a little hope. And of course, repairs sometimes cost money... I'll definitely go to the mechanic tomorrow and get it checked out. You're right, it should be repaired before any major damage occurs. I really hope that the problem will be solved soon. Thanks again for your help and advice - you guys are great!

Hey, I was in a similar situation with my 2008 Ford Escape. I also had these loud noises and a rough engine running. When reading the fault memory, a camshaft phaser was identified as defective. It was definitely a serious problem and I had to leave my car in the shop for a few days. They had to replace some major parts, including the cam phaser and associated mechanics. So yes, your guess could be correct. Would definitely recommend getting the car checked by a professional as soon as possible before any major damage occurs. Good luck, hope it doesn't get too serious!
