Engine warning light and loss of power in Renault Espace: Possible failure of the knock sensor

Hey guys, my Renault Espace (diesel, 2019, 113294 km) has the engine warning light on, I'm losing engine power, it jerks when accelerating, has poor fuel consumption and makes funny noises. I recently had a bad experience at my mechanic and am now hoping the problem could be related to a malfunction of the knock sensor. Does anyone have any experience with similar problems and can comment? Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A Renault Espace owner is experiencing engine warning lights, loss of power, jerking during acceleration, poor fuel consumption, and unusual noises. They suspect a knock sensor malfunction but are open to other possibilities. Another Renault owner shared a similar experience, where the issue was due to a cable/connector fault, which was resolved with a repair. The suggested solution is to have the car checked for wiring or plug defects by a mechanic.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I drive a Renault Megane (petrol, 2016, 98000 km) and had a similar problem. The thing with the engine warning light and the strange noises sounded familiar to me. It was a cable/connector fault. My car had similar symptoms to yours. The car kept stalling at idle and consumed a lot of fuel. Mechanic said it could have been worse, so you could say it was quite a number. But with the correct repair, everything was back to normal. So you could also have a cable/plug problem, just like my Megane. Have a look, it could be really helpful!

Hi, the story sounds really similar to what happened to my Renault Espace. In your experience, approximately how much did it cost you to repair your car? Since the repair, has your Megane had any further problems, or has everything run smoothly since then?

Hey, the false alarm of the knock sensor was fixed after my visit to the mechanic, so everything is clear now. The cost of repairing the cable/plug fault is €95.0. No further problems with my Megane since then, everything runs like clockwork. So, have your car checked and hopefully it will be fixed quickly. Good luck with it!

Thank you for sharing your experiences. The information you have given is really helpful. It's good to hear that your Megane hasn't had any further problems since the repair. Guess my best option now is to take the car to another mechanic and have it checked for wiring/plug defects. Thanks a million for helping me out. Wish me luck!
