Hey, thanks for the quick reply! The catalytic converter is a really stupid thing, I hope it's not that serious with my Bora. Can you remember how much it cost you? And have you had any problems with your Golf since the repair? Just want to know if I should expect any surprises after the possible catalytic converter repair. Thank you!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! The repair cost quite a bit, especially the secondary air pump was defective and it couldn't be replaced just like that. It came to a whopping €315. No mean feat, but since then the Golf has been running like a kitten again. Regarding your fears: After the repair, everything was top notch in any case, no further surprises. Incidentally, the air valve was also faulty, but my mechanic was able to fix that straight away. So all in all, the whole thing was worth it. Keep your fingers crossed that nothing worse is wrong with your Bora!

Hey, thanks for the tips! Well, the price thing is a bitter pill to swallow, but if it helps, it has to be done. Good to hear that everything was fine afterwards. I'll find a new mechanic and talk to them about the catalytic converter and the air valve. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Keep your fingers crossed for me! See you then!

Hey, I recently had a similar problem with my 2004 VW Golf. The "Check Engine" light came on, the fuel consumption increased and it smelled strongly of exhaust. My mechanic had a look at it and after a few tests it was clear that it was the catalytic converter. So it really had nothing to do with any valves. It was a serious problem, because a faulty catalytic converter can lead to further damage in the long term, especially with such high mileage. Hope that helps you. Good luck buddy!
