Weird engine noise

Hey all, having trouble with my 2017 Vauxhall CrosslandX Diesel. Engine and oil warning lights are on, engine's overheating and making strange noises. Just changed the oil and found metal particles in it. I suspect oil contamination but want to hear from anyone who's dealt with similar symptoms. What did your garage find and how was it fixed? Any insights would help.

I had some experience with a similar issue on my 2015 Vauxhall Mokka Diesel (I'd say I have some car maintenance experience). Had the exact same symptoms, engine warning light, overheating, and metallic particles in the oil. Turned out my oil pump was failing, which caused poor lubrication and those metal shavings were actually from engine components wearing down. Took it to my trusted local garage, they diagnosed it and replaced the oil pump plus did a complete oil system flush. Cost me around 625€, but it fixed the issue completely. What's your mileage and service history? Also, does it make any specific noise when starting up? This info would help determine if you're facing the same problem.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My car's at 32695 KM and just had its last service recently. Yeah, there's this awful grinding noise right when I start up, especially in the mornings. Sounds pretty similar to what you described with your Mokka. Think I'll take it to the garage tomorrow, better safe than sorry with these symptoms. Did your car also have trouble accelerating before you got it fixed?

Hey again! Yeah, definitely sounds like we're dealing with the same problem. My Mokka actually did have acceleration issues before I got it fixed, it would hesitate and feel sluggish, especially when trying to pick up speed on the highway. Just to share more from my experience, after I noticed those symptoms and before I took it to the garage, the acceleration got progressively worse over about a week. The grinding noise in the morning also got louder, which was pretty scary. Mine was at about 45000 KM when this happened. Since you're taking it to the garage tomorrow, one tip from my experience, make sure to mention the grinding noise specifically and that you found metal shavings in the oil. In my case, showing them the oil with metal particles really helped them diagnose the problem quickly. After they fixed my oil pump, it was like having a new car again, all those symptoms disappeared completely. Let me know how it goes at the garage. I'm curious if it turns out to be the same issue as mine. These Vauxhall diesels can be a bit tricky sometimes, but they're good cars once you sort out these kinds of issues.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info and tips! It's really helpful knowing what you went through with your Mokka. Yeah, mine's definitely showing those same acceleration issues you mentioned, it's been getting worse this past week. I'll make sure to bring a sample of the oil with the metal particles when I go to the garage tomorrow. Really hoping it's just the oil pump and nothing more serious! I'll keep you posted on what they find. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's made me feel a bit less worried about the whole situation.
