Engine start-stop problems with the Seat Leon 2016 - excessive fuel consumption and warning light on the speedometer

Poor fuel economy

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Car won't start

Dim or flickering lights

Hello everyone! Has anyone had any experience with a Seat Leon 2016, petrol engine, that won't start, guzzles way too much fuel, displays a warning light on the speedometer and the light flickers? I have a suspicion that there might be a problem with the engine start-stop system. It's already got just over 80,000 km on the clock. The last time I took it to the mechanic it was pretty much out of order, so I'd like to find out more here before I go back. Has anyone had similar problems? How did you solve it? Did the mechanics give you the runaround? Thanks in advance!

Hi, yes, this also happened with my 2013 Seat Ibiza. Had similar problems as you, with lights flickering and the car just wouldn't start. In my experience, this could be due to the control unit for the fuel system. On my last visit to the garage, they had to replace it on my car. It was pretty serious, because the engine failed completely and I could no longer drive. It could also be something with the ignition coil, the culprit for the light flickering. Try having the fault memory read out, that cleared up a lot of things for me at the time. Hope that helps you. Greetings!

Hello, man, that doesn't sound so rosy, what you went through with your Seat Ibiza! Do you remember how much you had to pay for the repairs? And have you had any similar problems since then or is everything running smoothly with your car now? Thank you very much for your help! Best regards!

Hello, yes, I remember it all too well! It cost €1000 to repair the control unit. A tidy sum, I know. But I have to say, since the visit to the mechanic, the fault with the engine start-stop system has been rectified. And the old speedster is now running smoothly again. No more problems, and the lights no longer flicker. I hope you get off as lightly with yours! Greetings!

Hi, oh dear, €1000 sounds really steep. But I'm glad to hear that your car is now running reliably and that you haven't had any further problems since then. I'll try to think about the garage again. Thanks for your help and valuable advice! Maybe I can get away with it just as well, we'll see. Best regards!
