Engine problems with the 2009 BMW X1: metal shavings in the oil and strange noises

Greetings, there are a few problems with my 2009 BMW X1 gasoline engine that I really can't understand. The oil light is on, there is a strange noise in the engine, metal shavings in the oil and I hear a valve adjustment noise. I suspect there may be a problem with the engine oil pressure system. Have any of you had similar problems and been able to solve them in a workshop? Would love to hear your experiences and tips on this issue. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had had similar problem with my 2007 BMW X3. My experience with car repairs is limited, so I am not an expert, but I always try my best to learn and understand. I took my car to the garage and they diagnosed the oil pump defect. In the end, I had to pay 755 euros. It was foolish of me not to take the warning signs seriously and keep driving, I would strongly advise against it. Could you perhaps provide more information about your car? It could be useful to better understand what exactly the problem could be. Information such as mileage, last oil change and when the problem first occurred is important. Hope this helps for now!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply and the valuable insight into your experience! The story with your BMW X3 sounds similar to mine, I must say. Well, my BMW X1 has 128436km on the clock and I did the last service almost three months ago. This engine noise and the problems with the oil light have been there for about two weeks now. At first I thought it was nothing serious, but then I found these metal shavings in my oil and I've been pretty worried ever since. I've also felt like the car's performance has dropped and the fuel consumption has visibly increased over the last few days. I hope this helps. Thanks again for sharing your experience!

Hey, it really sounds like you're having similar problems to me back then. 128,436 km is quite a lot, but if the maintenance is done properly, a BMW should be able to handle it. I would advise you to visit a garage as soon as possible, ideally have your car taken there and stop driving if it really is the engine oil pressure system. At the same time, the increased power and consumption could be further indicators of mechanical problems. A faulty engine oil pressure system can definitely lead to these symptoms. The good news is that the mechanics at the garage I went to did an excellent job. It took a while and wasn't exactly cheap, but in the end my car was running like new again. So don't despair, consider a repair early on - it could end up costing considerably less than if the problem is further into the engine. Good luck with that!

Hi, thank you so much for your help. This sounds really serious and it's best if I look into these problems immediately before they get any worse. I just hope the cost of the repair doesn't go through the roof, but what goes around comes around. Thank you again!

Hello, is it possible that when you turn on the air conditioning, the engine speed drops too low and the oil pressure light comes on? Perhaps the air conditioning compressor is less firm, which is why the engine needs more power to turn it.

Hello all, Is it possible that this error is also connected with an issue on the oil filter gasket,I noticed that for the second time in 2 years I have oil in the cooling. Thanks for the attention guys.

Hello, If the seal between the oil filter housing and the heat exchanger for the cooling water is leaking, this may well be your fault.

Hello everyone, I have a BMW E93 320i and i got the fault code 0030C1 and as soon as I start the engine the engine runs unsteady and when I then drive for a bit it smells like burned oil… Has anyone had the same issue? I want to solve the problem without spending tons of money ;-) Greetings, Vince

Hi Vince, The fault code 0030C1 is related to the oil pressure control, static. This could be due to a faulty oil pressure sensor or a problem with the oil pump. I would suggest starting with checking the oil level and quality. If the oil level is low or the oil is old, it could cause this issue. If the oil is fine, then you might need to check the oil pressure sensor. If you're not comfortable doing these checks yourself, I would recommend taking your car to a professional. Please keep us updated on your progress.
