Check engine light on

Hey guys! I have a possible problem with my 2021 Mercedes A Class, diesel and just over 71k kilometers run. Recently it has been showing the following symptoms: Check Engine light is on, engine turns off by itself, feels rather fuzzy, jerks when accelerating and the exhaust smells quite strong. I think it might have something to do with misfiring. Has anyone had similar experiences or can give any insight as to what repairs I might be looking at? I've had quite a run of bad luck at the mechanic recently and want to be better prepared this time. Many thanks in advance for your help!

Hey I had the same problem with my 2018 Mercedes E-Class, was very similar. Check Engine light was on and the engine just cut out too, not to mention the damn jerking when accelerating. It turned out that my engine control unit was faulty. It was a serious thing and I was pretty stunned, but luckily the mechanic was on it to fix it. He had to replace the faulty engine control unit with a new one and after everything was done, the car ran like clockwork again. So, it sounds pretty much like what you're going through. Would advise you to take the car to a mechanic and get the ECU checked. From what you report, it could very well be that. Hope that helps you.

Hey, your description sounds pretty similar to my problems. Thanks for the tip about the engine control unit, I hadn't thought of that before. Do you happen to remember how much it cost you to replace it? And did another problem arise with the car after that? Thanks for your time!

Hey, no problem! I remember the whole incident pretty well. It cost me about €1000 to repair the engine control unit. Yes, that was quite a chunk of money, but after that there were no more problems. Especially the misfiring you mentioned. After the visit to the mechanic, that was completely fixed and my car ran smoothly again. Of course, it's never pleasant when you have to pay an extra charge like that, but at least I was able to drive again with peace of mind. Hope this helps you!

Hey, thanks for all the info! I didn't expect the engine control unit to be so expensive, but if it fixes the problem then it's worth it. Glad to hear that you haven't had any more problems after this. I will take your advice and take my car to the mechanic to have the ECU checked. Thanks again for your help!
