Hey, thanks for your reply and the tip! It's good to hear that your car is running smoothly again after the timing chain was replaced. Could you perhaps remember how much the whole thing cost you? And have you had any other problems since then? Thanks in advance and best regards!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! After the visit to the mechanic, the story with the incorrect position of the crankshaft in relation to the camshaft was also solved. And the timing chain, it had actually elongated... The fun cost me a total of 1320 euros, pretty hefty, huh? But I haven't had any further problems since the repair, the car runs like a kitten. If I hadn't had it done, the whole thing would probably have been even more expensive. So, off to the garage it goes! Have a nice day and good luck!

Hi, it almost makes you want to gulp at the price, but when you look at it that way...The cost is worth it if it means I can prevent further damage to the engine. Your reply has definitely made me put more priority on getting the car to a mechanic. I will definitely try to find a mechanic who knows Renault well. Thanks again for the advice and your time. That was really helpful. I just hope everything goes as planned. Well then, take good care of yourself and have a great day too! Bye!

Hello, I had a very similar problem with my 2010 Renault Laguna, gasoline engine. This also had a high mileage (around 150,000km). The symptoms point to a problem with the timing chain, in my case it was elongated. As a result, the ignition timing was no longer correct and the engine ran unevenly. It could also be that your assumption about the position of the crankshaft to the camshaft is correct, as this is also regulated by the timing chain. Yes, this is a serious problem and definitely not a minor issue. If you continue to drive with it, it can cause permanent damage to the engine. In my case, the timing chain was replaced and the car has been running smoothly ever since. You should really make sure that you get your car to a garage that knows Renault as soon as possible. A mechanic who is not familiar with the brand could overlook the problem. Good luck!
