The car had similar symptoms to yours - increased fuel consumption and a strong exhaust smell. In the workshop, the problems were mainly with the valve that draws in the secondary air. It wasn't working properly and was constantly causing problems. The whole story was quite serious because this type of defect has a significant impact on driving behavior.
