Hey, thanks for your input! I'm reassured that it was ultimately just the EGR valve and that your car ran smoothly again afterwards. Do you remember roughly how much the whole thing cost back then? And has your car had any further problems since then or was that really the solution? Cheers!

Sure, no problem! In the end, this fun with the EGR valve actually cost me €355. But, hey, let's be honest, since the mechanic fixed the thing, the car has been running like a dream. No loss of power, no shuddering feeling at idle and, above all, no more off-putting exhaust smell. It really worked wonders to fix this EGR valve. Since then I have had no further problems with the car. So, just get it checked, it could be totally worth it. Cheers!

Thanks, buddy! That sounds like an expensive but necessary fix. It's great to hear that your car has been running smoothly since then. I'll take my Polo Diesel to the garage and see what they say. Hopefully it's just the EGR valve. I really appreciate your help and support. I will be careful and hope all will be well. Cheers!

Hey, I can understand you very well. I had exactly the same problems with my Passat 2012 diesel last year. Check engine light, engine performance and that crazy exhaust smell. Took my car to my garage at the time and they confirmed that the EGR valve was faulty and stuck. It had to be replaced. I have to say it was a serious case, but once the valve was replaced, the car ran smoothly and peacefully again. Although it was quite an effort, the result was worth it. You probably have exactly the same problem. It's best to have it checked. Keep your fingers crossed that it gets solved quickly.
