Enclave Security System Failure After Shop Service

Looking for help with my 2016 Buick Enclave (gas, 133K). The automotive alarm stopped working completely and the check engine light is on. Fault detection shows a siren communication fault. Had some questionable work done at my last shop visit and wondering if these issues could be connected. Has anyone experienced similar security breach problems with their Enclave? What was the root cause, wiring issue or alarm system failure? Need recommendations on what to check first before heading back to a mechanic.

I had a similar problem with my 2019 Buick Envision. The alarm controller started malfunctioning after routine maintenance, showing identical symptoms with a complete alarm disarm situation and check engine light. The root cause was a damaged wiring harness near the main alarm module under the dashboard. During a previous repair, the wiring had been accidentally pinched when reinstalling interior trim pieces. This created an intermittent wiring issue that affected both the security system and engine management. First steps to check: 1. Inspect visible wiring near the steering column 2. Test the hood latch sensor connection 3. Check the main alarm module connector for loose pins 4. Verify battery voltage is above 12V The fix required rewiring part of the alarm system harness and reprogramming the security module. This was definitely a serious repair requiring specialized diagnostic equipment. A proper automotive alarm system repair should include complete testing of all security functions to prevent future security breach incidents. Would strongly suggest having this diagnosed by a certified technician familiar with Buick security systems, as incorrect repairs can lead to more complex electrical problems.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I went through nearly the same signal problem with my 2016 Enclave last winter. After inspecting the wiring and finding some damage, the mechanic traced it to a faulty connection in the alarm controller that developed over time. Just wondering, do you recall roughly how much the repair ended up costing you? Also, have you noticed any other electrical quirks since getting it fixed? My dashboard lights occasionally flicker now, and I am trying to determine if this could be related to the original wiring issue.

Glad to provide an update on my Envision repair. Since having the mechanic fix the siren communication fault, the alarm system has worked flawlessly. The repair cost was 95 for addressing the faulty cable connection at the alarm controller, much less than I initially feared. Regarding your flickering dashboard lights, this sounds unrelated to the original signal problem. My vehicle has shown no electrical issues since the alarm system repair. The automotive alarm functions perfectly now, with no strange behavior from other electrical components. If your dashboard is flickering, it would be smart to have that checked separately. Flickering lights often point to charging system problems or loose ground connections, rather than being connected to previous alarm disarm issues. I can confirm that once the wiring connection was properly fixed at the controller, all security and alarm functions returned to normal operation with no side effects. The key is finding a technician who can properly diagnose these intricate electrical problems.

After those helpful responses, I wanted to share how my Enclave situation turned out. Took it to a certified shop that specializes in vehicle security systems. The mechanic found multiple wiring issues, including a badly corroded main connector and damaged alarm module wiring. The total repair came to 385 Euro, which included rewiring, a new module, and complete alarm reset. The dashboard flickering ended up being a separate problem, just a loose ground connection that they fixed while working on the alarm. The complete fault detection process caught both issues. Really glad I had it properly diagnosed instead of trying quick fixes. All systems are working perfectly now, no more signal problems or security breach warnings. The alarm functions normally and the check engine light has stayed off. Definitely worth getting it done right by someone who understands these complex electrical systems.
