EMF in Audi Q7 model year 2015: search for causes and solutions
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
An Audi Q7 from 2015 is experiencing issues with its electronic parking brake (EMF), which sometimes fails to engage despite the indicator light being on. Possible causes include faulty electrical connections or issues with the servomotor in the brake caliper, potentially due to rust from splash water. Solutions suggested include checking and repairing electrical connections or replacing the servomotor, with a recommendation to visit a garage promptly to prevent further complications, especially given the vehicle's frequent use on hilly terrain.

Thanks for your advice! So, my Q7 has 92430 km on it and the last service it had was about 6 months ago. Basically, sometimes the handbrake works but at other times it just doesn't do anything even though the light comes on. It's really crazy and worrying me. Especially because I park a lot on hills and uneven terrain.

I see, thanks for the additional info! The symptoms really do point to an electrical problem, just like with my Q5 at the time. It can also be a problem with the mechanics of the brakes, but in most cases it's more likely to be the electronics. I recommend you take the car to your trusted garage as soon as possible before the fault completely disrupts the operation of the brakes. We don't want the Q7 to fire the brakes at the most important moment, do we? Especially if you drive a lot on hilly and uneven terrain.

Thank you very much for your support! You're absolutely right, safety definitely comes first. I will follow your advice and take the car to the garage immediately. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who's had problems like this and that it can be fixed. Being on hilly terrain without a handbrake really doesn't sound like an adventure I want to have. Thanks again!

Servus, Has the servomotor in the brake calliper itself been checked? This can often be the problem that the electric motor/actuator rusts internally due to splash water. In many cases, the servomotor can also be replaced individually without having to replace the brake calliper. MFG

Hey, I once had a similar problem with my 2013 Audi Q5. I'm no expert, but I do have a bit of experience with cars. At the garage, they discovered that a cable connection or plug connection to the parking brake was faulty. It cost me €155 to fix, but everything worked perfectly again afterwards. Could you perhaps tell us a bit more about your car and the exact symptoms? That would certainly help us here to help you even better.
