General electric malfunction

Hi guys, I have strange problems with my Renault Clio (built in 2011, gasoline engine). Electrical faults, fault memory, low battery on start and dimming lights are occurring. I suspect it could be due to an interruption in terminal 15. Have you had similar experiences and can perhaps help? How did you have this fixed in the workshop and what were your experiences? I'm really at a loss and would be grateful for any tips!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Renault Megane (built in 2013, petrol engine). I'm not a car expert, but I have a bit of experience as I've been able to fix minor problems myself a few times. In my case, the engine control unit was faulty. This was discovered in my garage and I had to have it replaced, which cost me 1000 euros. It took a while, but the car has been running smoothly ever since. Could you share more details about your car? Maybe I can give you some more tips based on the information you give me.

Hey, thanks for your reply. My car has 115182 km on it and was last serviced a few months ago. I didn't know about an ECU, that's interesting, could really be the fault! I'm now considering whether it's worth replacing. 1000 euros is quite a lot. Thanks again for your help, really nice of you!

Hello again! I'm glad I can help. Yes, the control unit can be a real pain. But in my case it was worth replacing it because my Megane has been running perfectly ever since. But before you decide to do that, I would suggest you take your car to another garage for a second opinion first. Sometimes it can really help. About terminal 15, in my experience, it can definitely cause electrical problems, but it's unlikely to be the sole culprit. Perhaps other things, such as a faulty light switch or bad wiring, could be involved. So, better get that checked as well. I hope I was able to give you another helpful hint and good luck!

Good morning! Your advice is very helpful, thank you! I will definitely take my car to another garage and hope they can explain more. The point about the light switch and wiring makes perfect sense. 1000 euros is a lot of money of course, but if it fixes the problems then it's worth it. Thanks again, that really helped me! You are a great source of advice!
