Electrical problems and sat nav failure in Ford Ranger built in 2005: experience and solutions wanted

Navigationssystem is not working

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

General electric malfunction

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2005 Ford Ranger with a gasoline engine. It's currently acting up with general electrical problems and the navigation system no longer works. There is also a warning light in the speedometer. I believe that the communication between the control units could be faulty, but I'm not sure. Do any of you have experience with a problem like this and can give me some tips on how to fix it? How did you get it fixed in the workshop and what were your experiences? Thank you in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2007 Ford F-150. I'm not really a car expert, but I have a few years of experience. At the garage they found that the control unit was faulty and was sending the wrong signals to the BUS system. It was quite an expensive repair, costing me around 1000 euros. But everything worked perfectly again afterwards. I could use some more information to be able to help you more precisely. Can you describe in more detail what is happening? Which warning light is on exactly? How else is the car behaving? That might help me to give you some more specific tips. I hope this helps for now!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply. That doesn't sound very encouraging, but it's good to know what it could be. By the way, the warning light is the check engine light. The car sometimes hesitates when accelerating and it just doesn't feel right anymore. By the way, my Ranger has 114674 km on the clock and the last service was about 6 months ago. Do you think it's safer to just take it to the garage instead of messing with it yourself? Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! So, if the check engine light is on, that's definitely a sign that something is wrong. With the description you've given, it could actually be the ECU, but of course it's impossible to tell for sure from afar. Judging by your mileage, it's quite possible that components like the control unit are starting to go wrong. Since you're not an expert and your car has been around for a while, I would definitely recommend taking it to the workshop. Of course, it's always cooler when you can fix things yourself, but for something this advanced, you should probably take it to a professional. It's more expensive, but probably safer. I hope I've been able to help you. Let us know how it turns out!

Hi again, thanks for your advice and the quick reply. That makes sense. It really does seem better if I have the problem fixed by a professional. So I will probably have to make an appointment at the garage. But it's good to know what I might have to deal with. I was hoping it would be something minor, but that's just the way it is. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out. Thanks again for your help, it really helped!

It typically takes a few seconds for an OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) scanner to establish a connection with your vehicle's computer system. However, this can vary depending on the make and model of your vehicle and the type of OBD scanner you're using. If you're having trouble connecting, make sure the ignition is on, the scanner is properly connected to the OBD port, and your scanner is compatible with your vehicle. If you're still having issues, let us know more about your vehicle and the scanner you're using so we can provide more specific advice.

Good, recently recommended me to buy the universal scanner, when I already have it, if not as I would be scanning the vehicle, and besides having the multibrand plan, ie for all brands, I have come out as a failure saying I do not have it and to hire it, I understand that there are brands and or vehicles (models) that have more limited functions, but it is very strange this error when I have the multibrand subs and universal scanner Carly and I'm scanning errors. I look forward to a prompt response, thank you. Best regards.
