That's interesting about the short circuit. I've been focusing on the charging system itself. Where exactly did you find the short circuit in your Volvo? Was it difficult to trace, and did you need special tools or expertise to find the source of the fault?

Yep, exactly the same symptoms. The Volvo issue was a pain to track down. It was a faulty module in the infotainment system that wasn’t fully shutting down, creating a parasitic drain on the battery. I’d strongly suggest getting a proper diagnostic check done at a workshop that specializes in electrical faults. It'll save you time and potentially prevent further damage. Think of it like a leaky pipe – you can try patching it yourself, but a plumber will find the source faster.

Just wanted to close the loop on this for anyone else running into similar weirdness with their electric Countryman. Turns out the issue was indeed a heavily discharged battery, likely with some internal damage. After a diagnostic check, the workshop confirmed it and replaced it. Cost me 290€ all in, but she's starting like a champ now. Thanks again for the nudge in the right direction!

Sounds like a real headache. I had a similar issue with my old Volvo – kept thinking it was the ignition switch, but it turned out to be a bizarre short circuit draining the battery overnight. Have you checked your charging system thoroughly? Maybe a circuit breaker is tripping unexpectedly?
