Thanks for sharing your experience! My mileage is currently at 72567 KM, and I've kept up with regular maintenance. I haven't noticed any coolant leaks, but there's definitely a slight humming noise from the front end that wasn't there before. Had my last service about three months ago, and everything was fine then. Your Outlander story is really helpful, I'll definitely get that cable connection checked out first. Might save me from a more expensive repair if that's all it is!
Hey again! Thanks for the extra info about your Eclipse Cross. You know, hearing about that humming noise actually reminds me a lot of what my Outlander was doing before things got worse. Mine started with a similar humming too, and I was at around 75,000 KM when it happened, pretty close to where you're at now. Just to build on my previous response about the cable issue, that humming noise you're describing is exactly what I heard before I got mine fixed. In my case, the loose connection was causing the pump to work inconsistently, which explained the noise. Since you mentioned having service done three months ago, I wonder if something might have gotten loose during the maintenance work? One thing I learned from my experience, don't wait too long to get it checked. I put it off for a couple weeks thinking it wasn't urgent, and ended up having to get my car towed when it finally overheated on the highway. Not fun at all! If you want, I can recommend testing something really quick, when the engine's cold, start it up and listen carefully to see if the humming changes pitch when you rev the engine slightly. That's what my mechanic had me do to help diagnose my issue. Let me know if you try it!
Thanks so much for that detailed follow-up! I actually just tried that engine test you suggested, the humming definitely changes pitch when I rev it, exactly like you described. The similarity between our situations is pretty wild, especially with the mileage being so close. You've convinced me not to put this off, I've already called my mechanic and got an appointment for tomorrow morning. Really don't want to end up stranded on the highway like you did! I'll make sure to have them check that cable connection first thing. I'll update this thread once I know what the actual problem is, in case anyone else runs into the same issue. Thanks again for all your help, you probably saved me from a much bigger headache!
Hey there! I had a somewhat similar issue with my 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander (I have some experience working on cars, but I'm no expert). The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with last year. My car was overheating, and the check engine light was on too. Took it to my regular workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty cable connection to the electric coolant pump. The fix cost me about 95 Euro, they replaced the cable and everything's been working perfectly since then. Quick question, have you noticed any coolant leaks or unusual noises from the pump area? Also, what's your mileage? This info would help me give you more specific advice based on my experience. Honestly, with these symptoms, I wouldn't risk driving it much until you get it checked out. Electric coolant pump issues can get serious pretty quickly if left unchecked.
