Eclipse Warning Light, Brake Pad Diagnosis & Mechanic Help

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey everyone, my 2010 Mitsubishi Eclipse (102k km) has been showing a warning light on the dashboard. I think it might be related to worn brake pads, but I'm a bit hesitant to visit my local mechanic after a previous bad experience. Has anyone dealt with a similar warning light in their Eclipse? What was the actual issue and can you recommend a reliable mechanic who's good with Mitsubishis? Thanks in advance!

I had a similar situation with my 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer GT. The DSC/ABS warning light came on suddenly during highway driving. Initially thought it was brake pads too, but after visiting my trusted mechanic, it turned out to be a faulty wheel speed sensor on the front right wheel. The diagnostic showed the sensor was sending incorrect signals to the ABS control unit. The mechanic first cleaned the sensor and its mounting point, but the issue persisted. Eventually, the sensor needed replacement. Not a major repair, but definitely something you want to address soon as it affects your vehicle's stability control system. I'd suggest finding a mechanic who specializes in Asian cars or, better yet, Mitsubishi specifically. The dealership is an option, but I've had good experiences with Dave's Import Auto Service in my area, they really know their Mitsubishis. Hope this helps point you in the right direction with your Eclipse.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful info about the wheel speed sensor. I actually had mine fixed last month, was wondering if you remember roughly how much you paid for the repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since then? My Eclipse's been acting up again with some weird vibrations, so I'm kinda worried there might be more to it than just the sensor.

Hey there! Thanks for asking about the repair costs. Actually, my situation turned out to be a bit different than initially expected. When I took my Lancer back to Dave's, they found that the real culprit was a defective DSC/ABS control unit, pretty rare issue, honestly! Set me back about 1000€ to fix, which was more than I expected, but at least it solved the problem completely. Since getting it fixed, my car's been running like a dream, no more warning lights or brake issues whatsoever. Definitely worth every penny! About those vibrations you're experiencing though, that sounds like it could be something different from what I had. Maybe get that checked out separately? Better safe than sorry when it comes to brakes, you know? I'd still recommend Dave's if you're in the area. They really know their stuff with Mitsubishis, and they'll give you a straight answer about what's actually going on. Keep us posted on what you find out about those vibrations!

Thanks again for all the detailed info! Just wanted to update you on what happened with my Eclipse. I finally took it to a different mechanic (AutoTech Specialists) last week, and you were right, it wasn't just a simple sensor issue. Turns out I had both a faulty wheel sensor AND worn brake rotors causing those vibrations. The total repair came to about 800€, which wasn't as bad as I feared. The mechanic there was super transparent about everything, showed me the old parts and explained what was wrong. Much better experience than my previous mechanic! The car's running smooth now, no more warning lights or weird vibrations. Feels like I'm driving a different car! Really appreciate everyone's help in pointing me in the right direction. Sometimes it just takes finding the right mechanic to get things sorted properly. Lesson learned, won't be putting off these warning lights in the future! Take care, everyone!
