Eclipse Cross Overheating: Cooling Flap System Under Fire

Overheating

Hey everyone, my 2021 Eclipse Cross is running hot lately. The temperature gauge keeps climbing even during normal driving. I suspect the cooling air flap system might be acting up, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with similar overheating issues on their Eclipse Cross? Particularly interested in hearing what repairs were needed and which shops successfully fixed it. Any insights would be helpful. Thanks!

Hey there! I have some experience working on cars and had a really similar issue with my 2019 Outlander (also dealt with a few Mitsubishi ASX repairs before). The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I went through, engine temp rising unexpectedly during normal drives. Turned out it was indeed the radiator shutter wiring harness that was worn out behind the front bumper. Took it to Mike's Auto Shop and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. The repair set me back about 270€, but it fixed the problem completely. No more overheating issues since then. Before diving into repairs though, could you share: Current mileage? Any check engine lights? When did you first notice the temperature rising? This info would help confirm if you're dealing with the same issue I had.

Thanks for the detailed response! Last service was just 2 months ago and I'm at 89237 KM. No check engine lights so far, thankfully. Started noticing the temp issues about a week ago during my regular commute. The weird thing is it seems worse in stop-and-go traffic. Really hoping it's just the shutter system like in your case, sounds like a straightforward fix. I'll check out Mike's Auto Shop, appreciate the recommendation!

Hey again! Yeah, that stop-and-go traffic detail definitely rings a bell, that's exactly how mine started acting up too. With my 2019 Outlander, it was super noticeable when stuck in traffic jams, which makes sense since the shutter system really needs to work properly in those low-speed situations. Just wanted to add, since you mentioned your mileage (pretty close to what mine was when I had the issue), and the symptoms being worse in traffic, I'm even more convinced it's the same problem I had. Quick tip though, when I took mine to Mike's, I learned that sometimes the wiring can look fine at first glance. Make sure they do a proper diagnostic check of the entire system. In my case, they actually found some slight corrosion on the connectors too, which they cleaned up while doing the repair. Might be worth asking them to check that as well. The whole thing took about 3 hours to fix, and I've put another 20K on the clock since then without any issues. Let me know how it goes! Always happy to share more details about my experience if you need them.

Thanks so much for the extra details! Really good to know about those hidden connector issues, I'll definitely mention that when I take it in. It's super reassuring to hear your repair has held up well for another 20K. I've already called Mike's and got an appointment for next Tuesday morning. Will make sure they do that full diagnostic check you mentioned. I'll probably follow up here after they check it out, just to share what they find for anyone else who might run into the same problem. Thanks again for all your help, this kind of specific experience is exactly what I was hoping to find when I posted!
