Thanks that's really helpful! Your experience sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I'm probably going to follow your advice and take it to a Mitsubishi dealer. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? And has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you had any other heating problems?
Hey again! Yeah, happy to help! So after taking it to the Mitsubishi dealer last winter, the electric auxiliary heater issue was completely fixed, they diagnosed it spot on. The total bill came to 350€, which included the new heating unit and labor. I know it wasn't cheap, but it was worth every penny because I haven't had a single problem since then. The heating system in my Outlander has been working like a charm, nice and toasty even on the coldest days! It's such a relief compared to those freezing drives I had before the fix. The climate control is also working perfectly now, so I can switch between hot and cold without any issues. Honestly, going to the dealer was the right call for me. They knew exactly what they were dealing with and sorted it out properly the first time. If your symptoms are similar to what I had, you're probably looking at the same repair. The price might vary a bit depending on your location and exact model, but at least you've got a rough idea of what to expect. Let me know how it goes if you decide to get it fixed!
Thanks so much for all the details! I actually just got back from the Mitsubishi dealer yesterday. You were totally right, it was the auxiliary heater that needed replacing. My bill was a bit higher at 420€, but I guess prices have gone up since last year. The whole experience wasn't as bad as I feared. The mechanics were really professional and kept me updated throughout the process. They even showed me the old heater unit and explained what went wrong. It took them about a day to fix everything, and now my car's heating and AC are working perfectly again! Funny story though, while I was waiting in their lounge, I got chatting with another Eclipse Cross owner who had the exact same issue. Seems like it might be a common problem with these models. At least I know I made the right choice going to the dealer instead of trying my luck with another unusual mechanic. Really appreciate your help with this. It definitely made me feel more confident about where to take my car and what to expect. Now I can finally drive without freezing or sweating!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander diesel last winter. The electric auxiliary heater went bad and showed similar symptoms, barely any heat coming through the vents. Took it to my local Mitsubishi dealer since these auxiliary heaters are pretty complex units that help warm up the cabin, especially in diesel engines which naturally run cooler. In my case, they had to replace the entire auxiliary heating unit. It wasn't a quick fix, took them about a day and a half to complete the work. This is definitely something you want a qualified technician to look at, as it involves both electrical and heating systems. While it wasn't cheap, it was a serious issue that needed immediate attention to restore proper heating function. After the fix, the heating system has been working perfectly. Since you're having both heating and AC issues, they should also check your climate control module, as that could be a separate problem. I'd strongly recommend going to a Mitsubishi certified shop for this one. These systems are pretty specific to our vehicles, and you'll want someone who knows what they're doing. Hope this helps!
